I was massively underwhelmed with the funeral episode, I've seen sadder funerals on Heartbeat!, the funeral was very poorly done, the singing of Bridge Over Troubled Water was very ropey, The singing was out of tune and some was singing the wrong words, wellit seemed like that by reading the lips, just shoddy, no cohesion, it was disjointed and having that stupid Bethany/Sarah/max/Callum/David/kylie episode happening half way through was crazy, they did not do the funeral part well at all.

Must say I agree with this more than another thread saying what a great ep it was on Wednesday. Don't like to rain on anyone's parade, but to me the funeral wasn't a classic. Maybe due to grieving fatigue among the cast? It does feel like it's all gone on a bit too long.

The funeral was weak.....but....Wednesdays episode was probably the best this year...

Yes, I agree Wednesday was the best out of it all but that's mostly down to the scenes with The Barlows.

I agree that the funeral was a bit underwhelming but criticising the singing of Bridge Over Troubled Water seems a bit harsh. It's meant to sound unrehearsed as it would have been the first time they sung it together, some of them were not properly familiar with the tune. It was not meant to sound over-rehearsed like they were taking part in a choir competition or Britains Got Talent.

What church congregation sounds perfect when singing together?

Ken's speech was the most boring and unemotional speech I've ever heard for someones funeral. That was the most disappointing thing. The second was Ken having a go at Tracey in the church. It was pointless and ruined the episode. All those years Anne played Dierdre, I think her character deserved better.

Also Ken saw his speech as an opportunity to have a sly dig at Peter & Tracy about their parenting skills.

God I wish Kay Mellor had managed to get her hands in that gig. She is an OUTSTANDING writer. She understands northern, working class folk better than anyone.

These should have been a touching and emotional series of episodes so It comes to something when the best bit about it turns out to be Tracy flipping out and telling her family exactly what she thinks of 'em

She's bang on. The writing was horrible.

I wonder if soaps just don't attract enough talent now - they used to be real schools for budding writers to develop their skills.

It's a shame for such an iconic moment, they couldn't bring back a classic Corrie writer from the old days, if they haven't got the talent inhouse now. But I expect the current ones all think they're talented.

The whole thing was weird, disjointed, unemotional and positively cringey.

I agree with her.

I won't pretend I didn't shed a tear but when I compare it to when Vera came back for Jack or Hilda with Stan's glasses, the Deirdre episodes were very poor. I should have been in floods of tears.

I watched one episode of the latest series of 'The Syndicate'. This woman is in no position to criticise anyone for losing their craft.

I think she is spot on where Monday's episodes are concerned. I did really enjoy Wednesday's episode and thought it was much more fitting but I think overall as a tribute to Deirdre it was weak and disappointing.

Fair enough. I thought very much the opposite.

Re the Syndicate, while I enjoyed the lead up again, the conclusion to the running story arc this series left me disappointed as I guessed the majority of it and parts of it didn't make sense.

There's no doubt that Kay Mellor is a very successful writer whether you are a fan of her work or not, she's create numerous series and explored loads of different stories and I must say Coronation Street was actually worth watching while she had a hand in it.

So I think she's probably one of the most appropriate people to pass judgement on Corrie at the moment and there a bunch of up their own ass fools if they don't listen hard and pay attention to her comments.

Look at the way Liz is holding the coffin in that photo in the Mail : it looks like she is supporting it with her thumb and her fingertips which would be an impossibility.

I'm guessing it must have been made of cardboard and not even wood.....looks like it only weighs a few pounds at most.

Jonathan Harvey is a very poor writer. And lazy too. The Deirdre's glasses scene was a rip off of Hilda being given Stan's glasses. And the recent Platt drug counselling scene was a rip off of the Barlows AA meeting.
