Read that one of things Apple is hoping is people who buy the new ipod's will subscribe to Apple Music, if that's right that seems to suggest they would prefer people to get apple music then buy their music off itunes

If this is the case, I expect Apple Music in time to get pretty much access to every artist who's on itunes, although with some it may take a while, it will also be interesting to see if they do anything about the sound after Neil Young's latest comments

Yep, pretty much. Think the average iTunes user was spending $60 per year a while back. With Apple Music that would be $120... There's a lot more to it than that, but basically it looks like it will be more profitable for them, or atlas they hope to maintain market share.

It's not more profitable for them though. They get a 30% cut from iTunes income but streaming services generally end up with under 10% of revenue from streaming after the payment to the labels (They get the various royalty rates that have to be paid out on the tracks they own and then the deals with the major labels requires them to hand over an equal amount of 'ownership' to each of the major labels which eats up the profits. Ad supported ones are also required to hand over an equal amount of the ad slots for free to the labels who can then resell them and they are also entitled to buy a certain percentage of more of the ads at a discounted rate which they are also allowed to resell thus undermining the streaming services ability to sell ads at the highest value)

Apple are only doing it so if it switches completely to streaming they don't go the way of the physical music stores plus they can use it as a promotional tool to sell tracks

Latest IOS upgrade tempts you with a 3 month free subscription - tried it and added a few play lists. They'll be trying to tempt be to stay in a few months
