Are There Any UK up and coming Rock Bands anymore?
Seems a little bit like they're dying out over here...
I'm not a huge rock music fan myself but it would be a shame to see it die out to everyone wanting to be a David Guetta or Calvin Harris need some more guys like this: https://soundcloud.com/sweet-crisis/touch |

Tell you what. Download the Bandcamp app, do a search for any flavour of rock you fancy, select the location icon and add "United Kingdom", and see how many bands come up.

There's actually a lot. Guitar music is having a resurgence.
My current favorite band is Wolf Alice. Check out their new record My Love is Cool. |

I don't think its ever went away - its all I've been listening too for the last 30 years - it just never features too well via the mainstream media.
Every now and then a Power Hour or Headbangers Balls pops up for a few years and pulls in a few more punters to listen to heavy guitar based rock, but I think the days of the really huge bands are coming to an end - there wont be bands the size of Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Iron Maiden and Metallica unless there really is a huge turn around - but then those bands didn't get much media coverage either. I will admit I don't dip too much into the up and coming bands as much as I used too - funds are limited so I cherry pick my new records and the new bands I want to give a try too. I know its all out there for free - but I prefer to pay for the product and even struggle listening to a free stream before a purchase - I still always like taking a chance on an album. Listen to The Truth - I know he is closer to new music than me - but I will agree that in Northern Ireland we have a great scene going on at the minute - hopefully a few bands can start making waves over on the UK mainland - they certainly would if they were based there and the Irish Sea wasn't so costly to cross. I'm looking forward to hearing Lucifer to get back to the thread topic. It features Garry Jennings from Cathedral (probably my favourite British band of the last 20 years - with Sabbath being my all time fave) and a female vocalist playing very retro Sabbathy tunes. |

Have you checked out Screaming Eagles new album Stand Up And Be Counted? Good Norn Iron heavy rock.
I've been listening to the rock show recently and there are some interesting new bands out there but this ain't one of them. Actually in the last show I thought Faith No More walked all over the younger bands. |

I'll have to check out Black Peaks - never heard of them to be honest.
Screaming Eagles are excellent live. Bit too much on the AC/DC template for me but great lads and DC stuff appeals more to others than it does to me. |

I don't think their hearts are in it anymore. It used to be for many rock bands it was a way of life, bands would be determined to conquer the world. I'm not sure the young generations now have that view on the world or their music. For it to have any impact on the current charts you would need a number of bands to come up at the same time and produce good quality music, with social media now you would need to find smart ways of getting as many people to listen as possible and talk about you, dare i say it, get your names in the papers, have some confidence and be a bit brash, force your way into the charts, make people pay attention. That's the only way you will see real change.

Most recent example of this was The Blackout they were getting bigger and just had their biggest radio hit yet but they couldn't afford to do it anymore , they had thousands of fans but record sales are too low and streaming revenue even lower. Ten years ago they would have been getting top 30 hits now they couldn't go top 200 even with Radio 1 plays |

Never heard of them. Do you have a link or two? I did a search but could only find a post-rock (a term that has me reaching for the back button) band from Brighton.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jveNN29yC3k I will try and remember the NI band now.... completely different name Greywind. They are female fronted but they rock hard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TPWK1Hc8Gc |

I saw the Symphonic Metal band Leaves Eyes when they toured a couple of years ago, I'm going to see them again later this year, speaking to their singer, Liv Christine after the show she told me they make no money at all touring the UK, they are happy just to break even. If a reasonably well established band struggles to make money from touring in the UK an up and coming band have virtually no chance. |

Rock is dead only if you have a very limited definition of men playing heavy metal.
Guitar based music is stronger than ever and women are at the forefront of it. The recent Pitchfork festival in the US was dominated by guitar based music mostly led by women. Groups such as the reunited Sleater Kinney, new groups like Speedy Ortiz, Wolf Alice and Bully and the Australian singer songwriter Courtney Barnett are amazing and really tearing it up. Check them out! Open your minds to what a rock star can be! |

You are dead right. I've been expecting a women-led rock movement for some time. There are a lot of female fronted metal bands these days and Wolf Alice, Savages and Deap Valley are all brilliant...is this the time?
