Leona Lewis-Thunder/I am
Leona is going to release 'Thunder' in the USA and 'I am' in the UK. What do you think about the songs? I personally like 'Thunder', but I am not keen on 'I am'. The song may grow on me though.
Wouldn't it have been better for Leona to release both songs in both Countries? Some in the USA may prefer the 'I am' song, whereas some in the UK may prefer her 'Thunder' song. ![]() 'I am' http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/ne...piGTomQMWU6P90 |

I was a HUGE Leona fan. But like I've previously said I don't think it was Syco holding her back anymore. I actually think she really is that bland. She gets creative freedom and this is the sort of rubbish she wants to make?! I will be very surprised if this tat puts her globally on the map again.

Agree. She did have a good voice. Unfortunately that was all she had going for her.. All of her new stuff is seriously lacking something and as her 1st single didnt exactly light the charts up, I dont think any of these will either. |

There was another thread about a month ago discussing Thunder and how amazing the song was...apparently.
So I gave it a listen (it was a radio rip from Radio 2 iirc) and I just thought to myself "really? you all think this is amazing?!!!" and just couldn't get my head around the rose tinted glasses posts I was reading. I've been a massive fan of Leona's ever since her X Factor live shows - long before Bleeding Love was brought to our attentions. Thunder is seriously underwhelming. If you're gonna do a ballad, it has to build and develop and reach a climax when you think "YES!!!" but this sounds like such a limp and lacklustre song with no substance. Ok, the Leona purists love it because it's Leona. I judge songs on the song, not the singer. The worse thing is that after hearing Thunder and the under performance of Fire Under My Feet (which I actually liked ), I'm not holding out for the new album to be anything special. Just lots (and lots) of album filler to the point they're having to resort to using album filler as singles. Not looking good imo. Sorry guys.

i like Leona ...and vocally her pitch and emotional delivery are great . She actually showcases a lot of diversity but I'm finding her new material perhaps her most reduced work ...
best tracks - homeless; take a bow; scene of the crime (unreleased); come alive, brave, better in time, bleeding love, here i am, run , ave maria, favourite scar, shake you up, love is the colour (ft Jennifer hudson), can't fight it ft ne yo (no particular order) Based on her new material - her vocals sound great in places and not so well produced in other places. It all sounds a little Adele, Emelie copy catish. Production is not great on these 3 tracks. She needs a better producer. But I do like the fact that she is taking great songwriting control. |

The problem with Leona has always been the singles she released are actually more album tracks than singles material ... then you discover that on the album there are singles that could potentially be HIT and remain album tracks
glassheart single >>>>>>> collide>>trouble again with this new album I got you (it's a new song not the echo one but has the same name though) is way better than these three singles.. she just have no idea what GP wants...the only great decision she has made regarding singles was to release BL over BIT as first single, that gave her that huge success back in the days |

glass heart is beautiful in its acoustic version ..... much better than the album version imo
with syco I think she had access to some amazing songwriters and producers...but perhaps became dismayed with the selections made for album inclusion and single releases and at sometimes lack of promo.... but this is the deal with top label high promo control how did these songs not make an album yet alone a single release?? unlearn me burning down scene of the crime fly here now mountains can;t fight it ft ne yo |

Who on earth has come up with this singles release strategy? It's almost as if Leona's playing up to the bland vibe now. Has she completely given up on chart success? I listened to the album preview and she actually has some good current up-tempo songs on there, so why not release them? FUMF was dreadful dirge and Thunder is only slightly better. I Am sounds like the worst possible single choice out of all the songs on the preview. How can someone so talented continue to be so beige? I thought it was Syco putting her in the bracket but obviously Leona is just that dull.

she always sings like she's doing an impersonation of what she thinks a singer should sound like - make sure you hit all the notes and don't forget to include the little tics and catches.
That last song of hers about her feet being on fire was a load of over-wrought nonsense about nothing at all that had me switching back to radio 4 ( even if the archers was on). So is this. |

She needs to release Power, incredible vocals.
I actually really like I Am, I think you're all being too harsh. |

FUMF sounded like an attempt at Adele, I am sounds like Emeli Sande neither have a stitch of individuality. I second others when they say maybe it was her and not syco holding her back this is no improvement on any previous material and the singles again are poor I will always lament that Brave, Glassheart were never released and that I See You was discarded when it could have been her MHWGO moment.

I actually really like I Am, I think you're all being too harsh. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anyway back now for Leona into the mainstream, too many people associate her as boring or dull and therefore uncool. She should focus on making good music that her fans love. |

I can't even listen to the song due to the awful drum beat background running the whole way through - way too irritating!

I like these 2 tracks. A lot of the music that I listen to never touches the charts. This album will probably be the best for me as I have listened to a lot of the tracks now. I really do not find Leona bland and boring, each to their own.
I also like Leona's tone and emotional delivery of her music. She is doing a big radio tour in US at the moment and I hope all goes well for her. |

I've been a massive Leona fan since day one and I'm finding the new material underwhelming - all of the songs seem to have the same theme.
Thunder is the better track out of the two but still she needed something with more impact to sell the album. I actually beginning to wonder if it was Leona herself who turned down big hits like Halo, Burn etc and it wasn't actually Sycho. She just seems to prefer the stripped down basic production of songs more.

I just wanted to add though that "Essence Of Me" is actually the best of her new songs. It's definitely a grower too.

I do like Leona, but I'm just not sure with this new material. The production is so raw, the songs almost feel unfinished. I'm also finding the 'inspirational' lyrics a tad cringey.
Undeniably talented woman though. |

Leona would never in a million years have had a hit with Burn. The song doesn't suit her at all.
We Found Love on the other hand .... |

I like "I Am", it's a very catchy song and Leona's vocals are great on it. Whether it will be a hit for her is debatable but I think it should be as it's a lot better than a lot of the rubbish in the charts the moment, imo! "Thunder" is ok but just that - ok. I don't find it that exciting, just a little boring. I liked Fire Under My Feet, it was really catchy and I loved the rhythm of it. Shame it didn't do well for her. She's still a great talent, she just needs better material on the whole.
