Clive Hornby as Jack Sugden. I can't even visualise the original.

I am not a fan of Ben Hardy, he had some good moments but I don't feel like he was any better.

Charlies Brookes was a recast for Janine wasn't she? That has got to be the best one.

Gemma Bissix is a definite one for good recast. Absolutely brilliant. Also big fan of Harry Reid as well. Think he's made Ben a lot better than either of the other actors

The ones above are the best recasts on soap, in my opinion.

Sorry, but I did not like Hetti playing Lucy on Eastenders. Melissa was the better Lucy as I am concerned.
Can't think of anyone else at the moment.”

I didn't like Hetti as Lucy either, for me Melissa was Lucy. Melissa had a lot of the same mannerisms/facial expressions as Michelle Collins (her on screen mum), I never felt that with Hetti, to me she was like a completely different character.

I liked Hetti as an actress and always felt she would've fitted in better as a new character in a new family.

Another good recast would be Lauren in Neighbours.

I agree, even though I really liked Karl Davies and was initially disappointed he wasn't coming back. Enjoying Ryan's portrayal of Robert immensely.

I also think Fiona Wade makes a much better Priya Sharma.

Max and Darren from Hollyoaks were both recasts and I'd say that they were brilliant recasts as those parts seem to really be theirs though I don't really remember the other actors and they were both only young so could have grew into them. I know hollyoaks itself is a joke but they are/were good actors

I didn't personally find Ben Hardy better than Thomas Law as Peter Beale.

Agreed.

I would add Dawn Acton's tenure playing Corrie's Tracy Barlow.

Are we talking about the recast actors who took on the part most seamlessly (and played it like the original actor) or the recasts that put their own stamp on the role ?

In the first category, I'd say Irene from Home and Away. Both actresses looked similar and had similar mannerisms and, because Irene I has been a fairly minor role, it was not so noticeable that Irene II was played by a different actress (Lynne McGranger).

In the second category, Kym Medcalf as Sam Mitchell. She made the role her own and played a 'grown up' Sam.

Maybe you are mixing up the actor and his character ! James Alexandrou's Martin was hardly the most captivating person either. I think the new Martin has worked in looks and mannerisms.

I'm also gonna say Ryan Hawley as Robert in Emmerdale.

Robert's my fav character because of him. He's been amazing! I never want him to leave. I'd be gutted if he ever did

Barbara Windsor as Peggy Mitchell, EE

Jacqueline Jossa as Lauren Branning, EE. Didn't think Madeline Duggan was a very good actress. I can't imagine her being an alcoholic or having affair with a middle-aged man.

Kim Medcalf as Sam Mitchell, EE

James Bye as Martin Fowler in EE. I think he has fit well imto the role.

Rakhee Thakrar as Shabnam, EE. I think she has really made the role her own.

Harry Reid as Ben Mitchell, EE. HUGE improvement from the last two.

Another vote for Ryan Hawley as Emmerdale's Robert. When his casting was first revealed, I remember thinking that he didn't look right for the character and wouldn't be very good. How that has changed!

Ryan Hawley has made the part of Robert Sugden his own, ED struck gold casting him.👍

EE Harry Reid as Ben
ED Ryan Hawley as Robert
CS Maggie Jones as Blanche
HO Amanda Clapham as Holly, purely because after the recast TPTB stopped writing Holly as a vile, detestable bitch.

it was only a brief recast but Aleesha from Waterloo road was brilliant as Amber Sharpe when she returned for a few ep's last year, just a pity she wasn't cast originally along with stronger actors playing Gabby, Taylor and Phil. Then perhaps the family would have worked

Roo Stewart was another good recast. Georgie Parker is an amazing actress

For me mine times out of ten I find it difficult to accept a recast for a while unless it's been a fairly long period since the character left. It also depends how much I remember about or invested in them the first time round. So very example Andy Robert and Katie was a storyline I loved in Emmerdale and not watching Emmerdale any longer the new Robert looks alien to me. (Don't get my wrong I appreciate I haven't given him a chance I'm purely being honest about external thoughts).

I agree with Kim Metcalfe and Harry Reid being instant hits and I also warned to Jacqueline Jossa, Ben Hardy and James Bye - although I'm not certain any of them were necessary recasts (except possibly Martin who didn't want to come back).

I'm intrigued about Stephanie Davis and what they will do with her. Personally I think after five years the character needs resting either way as a recast of someone so established and prominent on screen seems inappropriate.
