Awful character and actress, complete deadwood

With a few notable exceptions I've been really chuffed about how positive this thread has been OP!!

I went into my DS 'public profile' earlier & found a very similar thread I started just after I joined in Dec 2014 & It was well & truly savaged at the time!!

Not sure why the upturn in popularity for Maria between then & now but it's good to see!!
I sense better times ahead when Blackburn leaves & Samia returns from her maternity leave!! Let's hope so anyway!!

She hasn't had a storyline since Marcus left and she went after Tyronne. I get the show needs background characters but why not make her happy in the background? She's just... there. At least a wedding gives her something to do other than moan about David to Audrey.

I don't mind Maria I just wish she would get a more interesting story like she did back with Liam/Tony or the character could get boring.

She's got a easy job

I'd like to see her develop some more friendships. You hardly ever see her with the likes of Michelle and yet they are sisters in law. Can't remember but is there any reason for example why she and Leanne don't get on.

Maria has slowly become more like Gail - comedy and cringey - but Gail can pull it off!

She & Leanne were sworn enemies in the mid 00's due to Maria sleeping with Toyah's b/f and Leanne retaliating by wrecking her relationship with Nick, but there's every reason they would have buried the hatchet & become good friends, both of them being in a similar situation bringing up a child single handed!!
She & Michelle were best buddies for years & Michelle moved in with Maria when she split with Steve first time round but you never see any evidence of it now!!
Like I said earlier they made a great effort to forge an unlikely but lovely 'friendship' between her & Carla but then abandoned it completely & put Michelle into the role without any stories to back it up!!
She was good mates & something of a mentor to Sarah before she left but again, nothing dince she returned!!
Her friendship with Fiz ended when she had her 'breakdown' & tried to get bsck wih Ty behind Fiz's back but wouldn't we have seen some more scenes of her trying to mend that friendship??

The teeatment of Maria as a character in recent years has been quite frankly appalling!!

Surprised Maria never interacts with Michelle. Looking back on old episodes they used to interact quite a bit, and of course Maria was married to Liam, Michelle's brother. But now it's always Michelle and Carla (whom was hated by the Connor's). Does Michelle even see her nephew?

And her and Luke will probably split up when she goes off on maternity leave. We really don't get much of them together expect the odd scene every few weeks.

Luke is such a wimpy pairing for Maria. She deserves a real man.

Another Maria fan here. There are far worse characters and actors than Samia in the cast. I like her mother/daughter style relationship with Audrey and her relationship with Luke. It is such a shame her connections with so many of the other characters is largely ignored. There is so much they could do with Maria if they wanted instead of another failed relationship storyline.

The character is shite and So is the actress. She hasn't had a decent storyline for ages because the writers don't know what to do with her and the actress isn't capable of carrying something good off. They won't get rid of her because she has been there for ages and the actress is clearly happy basically stealing a living so expect her to be just pretending to cut hair in Audrey's for a few more years.

Don't hold your breath waiting for critics to admit they might have been wrong.
As for Samie. I cannot stand the way she sighs at the end of almost every sentence. It's very grating and amateurish.

I might be more inclined to listen to what you're saying if, like say Sean or Julie, she had never had big storylines but throughout most of the 00's she was one of the most used characters, especially 08 & 09 and she never had any problem carrying any of those off, likewise the Frank Foster stuff in 2011 & the beginning of the Marcus s/l in 2012!! As i said earlier if the current writers haven't the imagination to come up with decent material for established characters like Maria, who have a history with just about every other character on the Street, then it's they who should be looking for another job, not a decent, loyal & dedicated actress who has Corrie running through her veins!!
