I see a lot of comments exclaiming that VTS is the be all and end all. In reality we don't need Vote to Save, we just need to stop having 7 housemates up for eviction each week.

Back in the channel 4 days the evictions were usually 2 or 3 way with vote to evict. And this created a lot of viewer engagement and it "protected" the big personalities,
because their fans just voted to evict the other housemate they were up against.

When a multiple eviction did occur, they would bring in VTS, but only when needed.

These days channel 5 seems to think they can put 5 people up every week and still use VTE and still keep the interesting housemates. They are wrong, they need to either:

1. Always use VTS or
2. Go back to traditional nominations with 2 people up for eviction each week.

If Channel 5 went back to the old system, 2 or 3 people up each week with VTE, and using VTS when they want a mass eviction or lots of people up - we will retain the big characters while increasing audience engagement and I imagine increasing the voting figures.

We haven't had a single exciting 1 v 1 eviction in a long time.

They definitely need VTS if they are going to have 4 or more up

VTS needs to come back IMO. And if it is VTE, it should be only 2 up, but it should be VTE.

Surprised that this year they randomly decided to do a 2 way eviction for the first time in 3 years with Joel V Eileen. It's a bit of an odd decision to make for that eviction.

I don't think the number who are up is a problem in itself. There's a problem when 4 will be evicted, as in week 10 of bb11 or week 3 this year, but not when 4 or 5 are up. Indeed, the more who are up, the easier it can be to save someone, because it increases the chances there will be someone up who'll get more votes or who makes an obvious target.

Of course, it isn't always easier (because it can be difficult to know how to vote if your aim is to save someone), but why should it have to be?

However, when more than 4 are up, it is almost always because of some twist or dubious 'punushment', or some other machination from BB. That is the problem, imo, rather than the voting system.

I suspect the reason there aren't more 1 v 1 evictions is that the people who want vote-to-save complained that they could be used too easily to evict. So rather than just wanting vote-to-save, they want it with always having 3 or more up. This maximalist demand seems to have put BB off having 1 v 1 evictions even after going back to vote-to-evict.

BTW, one of the problems with VTS is that it makes it much harder to evict someone than VTE makes it to save someone. To save someone with VTE, all that's needed is to get one HM to have more votes. But to evict someone with VTS, it's necessary to get all of the others to have more votes. (Despite that difficulty, Aaron's fans managed to evict Anton when 4 were up; but it's rare to have as much firepower as they did then.)

Vote to save works well on CBB.

We need live feed back more than we need VTS. Back in the live feed days we still had many top housemates make the final. Live feed gives an overall better representation of the housemates. This alone can make people vote different. VTE didn't stop some really good final 5's or 6's happening back then. Or what ever the finals line up number was. lol

Even on C5, the most watched series (bb14) used vote to evict. Big characters survived the votes too. Hazel survived 2 votes before she was evicted in week 8. Gina and Dexter were up again and again, and both reached the final. They lost only when it was a 'positive' vote. (I'm calling to-win and to-save 'positive' here.)

Still, I agree that a proper live feed gets people to watch and vote differently. I think that's an important point.

I'm sick of the negativity of vote to evict, it even made some earlier series like BB6 disgusting to watch as HMs had stuff thrown at them when evicted. And now the crowd are noisy in interviews too.

i do remember bb6 being the turning point, but bb7 it all started to fall to pieces for the show, i dont think i have really enjoyed a civilian series properly since then.
the Makosi interview was when we first started seeing how ghastly the eviction crowd were.

personally i think its time to make BB abit more ''high brow'' if thats possible ?
i say positive voting, with a proper nominations system each week. and a much smaller crowd for the evictions. with the large crowd on finale night. also a proper indoor studio instead of the cheap shite inflicted on us every friday since C5 took over.

I doubt the voting system has much affect on the moron crowd. That is probably much more to do with the downgrading of the show to thrive on conflict. If they brought in VTS you can guarantee within a couple of weeks there would be cries of "We will never get rid of "X".... bring back VTE".

I was always of the opinion that since HMs were nominated for eviction, then the vote should be to evict as well. When there were only two or three up there was something satisfying about VTE, human nature being what it is
Nowadays, though, with so many HMs being up, it does make sense to change to VTS, to me anyway.

I am not sure why the numbers up should affect the principle of it being an eviction vote and therefore vote to evict. If there were only two up VTE is no different to VTS. The only reason there is an aversion to multiple nominees and VTE is that it limits tactical voting by those wishing to save a HM that a majority may find unpopular. There is a good argument that VTE and multiple choice is the purest form of an eviction vote with the most unpopular leaving. It is claimed it is a negative vote but of course it isn't - it is a positive vote to get rid of the most unpopular HM.

With multiple HMs up, then the 'big' characters will get more votes, because no-one will waste money voting for someone they don't care all that much about. With VTE that means a house full of nobodies, with VTS it means a house full of raging egomaniacs. Something like that, anyway.

VTS is so obviously the fairer system, we tend to get better eviction results and winners with that voting system.

Vote to save all day long. This year's show was the epitome of all that is wrong with vote to evict - and it goes beyond just losing "big characters". The producers actively had to intervene, week after week, to protect their main players from facing the public vote and inevitable eviction. Which was a ridiculous state of affairs and a tacit admission that voting to evict doesn't serve the show's interests.

But more than that, vote to evict has begun heavily influencing the way the housemates conduct themselves, perhaps to a greater extent than ever before. I've never known a series with more radar-dodgers, fence-sitters and glad-handers. And yet, when pushed, the likes of Danny, Chloe, Cristian showed there was a lot more to their "nice" character bubbling under the surface that they were seemingly suppressing for the long-term good of the game.

And that's the main problem: everyone knows the vote to evict game by now. Do nothing. Say nothing. Play it safe. If you're ever up for eviction, get your head down and disappear for the week. That's how you make the final. And if too many housemates follow the same path, then there's no show.

While they continue to employ vote to evict, Big Brother will continue to reward the contestants who take cover behind the contestants who drive the show - and are ultimately punished for doing so. It makes little to no sense from any perspective - something they bizarrely seem to acknowledge when making the far more successful CBB, which has been vote to save for years and appears to be working out just fine.

When c4 had 2 up , people could just hide thier way to the latter stages , as has been said , the HMs put up people foe EVICTION and the public then chose from those to EVICT... that is the shows pemis ... However it still leads to quiet people staying in for far too long .... One solution , no nominations and Vote to SAVE for all HMs , that would ensure no big characters leaving early

For example, in the most recent series of CBB, Katie Hopkins and Perez Hilton would have been out quite early on with Vote To Evict.
