About 4 years ago I purchased a Panasonic TX-42ST31B 3D Plasma from Comet.
I got it with a discount and 2 pairs of 3D glasses for £425. It has been a brilliant tv no burn/retention issues at all. Alas 3 days ago it switched itself off and I got the 7 red flashes of death. The repair guy said the boards were fine so it must be something else.

Spent the last couple of days looking for a new tv just in case the old Panny is knackered. Can't believe how much time I have spent researching for a new telly. I was hoping to get another plasma but it is not essential. The latest model plasma I could find was the LG 50PB690V ( £569.00 ) or the LG 60PB5600 ( £649.00 ) .
Any thoughts on these models or should I look for LED TV's.?
Cheers.

The LG sets were always the lower quality Plasma sets. The picture quality on one of these will be noticeably worse than your old Panasonic.

I don't own one of these, but reviews like this would certainly put me off -

However, if you're brave enough to venture inside the TV, there may be ways of tweaking them to improve the picture quality.

I have an LG 50PM680T-ZF, which is now two and a half years old, and it's my second LG plasma set.

I can honestly say I've had no problem with this set in regard to screen burn or anything else. My previous LG set did have problems with screen burn and flashing red pattern in the centre of the screen.

Compared to all other LCD and LED sets I've seen recently, my plasma picture is far superior.

I went from an LGPK350 to a Samsung Ue48H6240
Its a very good TV I think.
Much better I can now just leave any channel on the screen to and not have to worry about IR.
The blacks are very good on these Samsung TVs to and have no problem with viewing angels which is where plasma wins.
Though LED ones seem to stay much cooler to so not hot up the room as much another thing I like.

Thanks poppa.
I haven't had to bother with tv's for over 4 years. Then it was plasma v LCD.
Now it's 4k, Ultra 4k, OLED, local dimming, .............

Hi fm I am looking at the Samsung Ue48H6400. Reviews look very good but.........problems with sync apparently. Being the last of the plasma' s I still don't know what to make of the LG 50PB690V . Decisions, decisions, I will get there in the end.

The LG's are decent enough plasma tv's but personally I would be checking either gumtree or avforums for a ST60 or similar - lot's of folk are finally biting the bullet and upgrading to 4K so you may be able to pick up a bargain with 2 or 3 years left on the warranty.

The thing is if you are not interested in 4K and HDR these last plasma tv's from Panasonic cannot be beaten for picture quality.
