EE: Unrealistic Gay Relationships?

What's so unrealistic about them? Is it because Paul is more attractive then Ben and you think that they can't date(they are not even dating btw)?

I'm sorry but most of you guys sound old. We live in a time were gay(and straight) people meet someone and they shag their brains out in a matter of hours. It's pretty realistic. It's 2015 people! Grindr and Tinder have their uses.

What was unrealistic was the fact that either Ben or Paul(whoever topped) actually managed to get it up while there was a dead body right next to them.

I didn't find anything unrealistic about Danny Pennant and Johnny. I thought it was a very realistic development, and far too short, actually. It should have gone further. The thing with Luca, I'll forgive them for, since Sam Strike wanted to leave and they had to pen some kind of exit based on whatever limited history they had for the character.

As for Ben and Paul: consider their age and situation. They're like typical horny 19-year olds who also happen to be hampered by not having a place of their own to go to, and one of them is closeted. You do realize how often boys that age think about sex, right? .. Get two of them together, and it's a go .. lol! To me their behavior is actually more realistic than Roxy hooking up with Dean on Patrick's sofa, or drunk Sonia having a go with Fatboy on Carol's.

As if this is anything new. I'm 46 and in my experience fast (gay) hookups were rampant in the late 1980s and through the 1990s. Clubs, bars, saunas and (let's face it) public toilets could get very busy.

So whenever I see it on TV I can't take it seriously.

You have just contradicted yourself, how would it be more interesting to see Ben with someone straight when he's gay, surly it makes more sense for him to be with someone gay, surly if your gay you'd prefer Ben to get off with someone who's gay rather than make a fool of himself and gay people

Am I the only one who is enjoying the Ben and Paul storyline and likes the relationship?

What about funeral parlours?

The funeral parlour thing was clearly just for comic effect. It wasn't intended as a "OMG look gays are so horny they pork each other in a room with a dead body"

If this was two people of the opposite gende having a bonk in the home nobody would say it was an example of an 'unrelastic heterosexual relationship'.

The setting and the subsequent hiding was done for comic effect, the fact the two characters are gay isn't relevant.

I know. So was my comment.

Surely Paul's the top - just can't see Ben in that position (quite literally!!!)

Another misconception about gay men is that it's all about anal sex. This is simply not true and I've known quite a few people who don't indulge in that at all. Mutual masturbation & oral sex would probably be Ben & Paul's first step, as it were.

They should show Ben meeting someone for a hookup on Grindr, or rename it "Shagr" for EE

I don't recall them shagging in either the first or second episode! They certainly showed a mutual liking for each other but I think the Friday episode in the Funeral Chapel was the first time they had taken their relationship to that level on screen.

Two collegues of mine working for a Funeral Director were caught having sex in one of the Chapels in which a deceased person was at rest. Unfortunately I was one of those that caught them and following disciplinary procedures they were both sacked for gross misconduct. Oh, and they were a straight couple!

They did. There was a scene where a guy flashed up on his phone.

Romance, eh? Who said it was dead?

Vile behaviour in my humble opinion, whether it's realistic or not.

What did he flash? His knob?

It was repulsive - as are both the characters.

Of course no heterosexual young couple would dream of sneaking off for a quickie!

Nothing to do with whether they're gay, bi, hetero or anything else. It's the idea that sh*gging in a chapel of rest is perfectly acceptable behaviour.

Eh? Putting Ben with a formerly straight character would be ridiculous

It's not the fact that Ben and Paul are an unlikely couple that bothers me. Unlikely couples in soap happen all the time - some of them going on to be very popular and successful. What grates on me with Ben and Paul, is that it was rushed and just come out of no where. Didn't DTC recently say it was meant to be some kind of love story? because if that's how they're selling it, I'm not buying it. I don't think they have much chemistry either but I think I would have found it more believable if there was a bit of depth to their relationship. I can't say I was a Ben and Johnny shipper but at least that potential paring had some substance. It's clear to me that Paul was just a Johnny replacement and that's why it all seems off.

I am biased, because I was a huge fan, but IMO EE got it right with Chryed (Im just going to erase 2011/12) from my memory. They were unlikely but there was a real buzz, a pull and IMO Marc and Johnny had a great chemistry and their story was one I could really believe and invest in.

I'm gonna sound like a massive knob here but I find it totally unrealistic too.. and that mainly is because Paul is so much more attractive than Ben. We've seen nothing to suggest their relationship is based on anything deeper than just physical attraction and, with that in mind, I really can't see someone as hot as Paul having that kind of instant attraction with Ben.

Again, I'm aware that probably sounds incredibly shallow- but is just the way I see it.
