Hollyoaks - Annoying way characters speak
piggypug

Has anyone else noticed the annoying way some actresses speak on Hollyoaks? I've noticed it with Maxine, Tegan, Leela, Perrie, Theresa and Porsche. Possibly a few others too. They do this thing where they randomly pause in the middle of a sentence when they don't need to. It has been irritating me for a while now. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed it? I was also wondering whether it was a Northern thing, but I haven't noticed it in the other Northern based soaps (Corrie and ED).

I'll post some examples later.

Probably just awful acting.

This is the thing that most drives me mad about Hollyoaks. The worst offender was Stephanie Davis (Sinead). Thankfully, we won't have to out up with her terrible, unnatural delivery more. It's not confined to the female cast members, although it is much more common among them. Why can't they just deliver a line as they would say it in real life?

When Sienna first came into it she used to do this infuritating upward inflection at the end of every sentence. That was pretty annoying 😡

I just put it down to it being the way they learned the lines, they just can't pull off natural conversation. Leela is a great actress but her and Peri just really force natural conversation like that- Peri always looks to the side as well when she takes a break, like shes checking for spiders on her shoulder.

I always just assume its a character thing with Theresa.

Tegan does infuriate me with it, its really not subtle.

I'm glad others have noticed it too, and yeah the male characters can be prone to do it as well, namely Darren and Ste.

Yeah, Tegan is the worst one I think!

Not sure, but I find it funny how Rhys and Ste always used to pronounce the word, Yesterday as Yestodaay or something.

I've only really noticed it from Leela and Tegan.

I'm going to look out for it next week as I've not noticed.

The voices that grate for me the most is screechy Nico & Zach who sounds like he's trying to talk with a marble in his mouth, or is it just me?

I don't think it's that glaring but when you do clock it it's annoying.

Nico's voice is pretty bad, bless her. As is her acting... I can't even remember what Zack sounds like off the top of my head, he's such a forgettable character!

Tegan is just an ugly bitch who (because she is chubby) we are supposed to be rooting for as the underdog despite her trying to steal her sisters man. I hope this Beth Ditto lookalike pisses off soon.

Given that so many of them do it it could be the way they are directed and the script is written.

I haven't noticed it, can anyone post some examples as I can't see any on YouTube either. Although I have noticed how Peri looks at her shoulder at lot.

If they are, it's a big mistake. It sounds so unnatural that it's distracting. I can't pay attention to what they are saying for being aware of the unnatural-sounding way they are saying it. Also, why don't they direct all the actors to do it? The older actors and the better actors don't do it.
