Sim Transfer

Hi Everyone,

Thinking of buying a new sim free phone. My old phone has a standard size sim and most new phones are micro sim. Is it possible to transfer all my data from old sim to a new micro sim, possibly through my sim provider, in this case its O2. has anyone tried this. I really need to keep my old number and I have £15.00 credit on my current sim.

Regards Arf

If you are good with a pair of scissors then you could cut down the SIM card to fit. The actual clever bits in the SIM cards are actually all the same size it's just the surrounding card/plastic that makes one SIM a Mini and another a Micro.

So with a bit of care you can trim the excess off a Mini SIM to convert it into a Micro SIM and just stuff the same SIM into your new phone so nothing needed to transfer over.

Also depending on what phone you have and what you change to you may be able to copy the data to and from some sort of cloud storage.

You can order a Micro SIM here if you're not happy cutting, or you can call into an O2 store:

I have a mini to micro sim cutter with cost £2 of EBay. Most phone third party high Street phone shops and market stalls will cut it down for you for a minimal charge.

I have also cut a micro sim to a nano sim with scissors. It is very strange cutting away the metal but it still works afterwards.
