Wired connection for tablet
Rhonda
19-07-2015
Normally I connect to the internet wirelessly, but on this occasion I need a wired connection. What equipment do I need to do this?
The tablet is on windows OS (it's an Acer 10 switch)
My router has a wired connection to my PC.
I'm sure someone on here has the answer- many thanks for reading.

Something like one of these ought to do the job. And of course an ethernet cable.

Why do you need ethernet connection?

If you don't have wifi you could buy a travel router eg great device such as

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007...F8L&ref=plSrch

You connect this to ethernet socket using ethernet cable and connect to it via wifi. Saves messing with cables connected to tablet which reduces mobility and it is so easy to disconnect by accident.

It works other way round e.g. connect an ethernet device via wifi.

I need it to download something which will not work wirelessly. This is an instruction from my company, so I am not about to argue with them.

Frankly, there is no way they will be able to tell the difference. They probably want you to avoid wireless due to the extra support issues involved.

Why would this be required? The device the OP has seems to have a proper USB port already.

It's a very odd instruction. Perhaps they're concerned about WiFi security?

I don't understand either. I upload and download wirelessly all the time and will continue to do so, so I don't think security is an issue. On this occasion they are trying to correct a fault, and I suspect it's something to do with McAfee, as a McAfee window is now appearing whle I am working and it didn't used to.

Sounds more likely info passed down the line has gone awry.
It is highly possible the advice was to use broadband and not costly mobile data.
