Seriously, I can't remember the episode in which Dan was violent toward Leanne. Must have been years ago. Was he charged? Were the police involved?

The thing is we can all do some bad or wrong things in our lives and in some cases we must expect that people have turned a new leaf.

Leanne used to be a prostitute. She's no longer one. Dan used to be violent. He's no longer violent although . He has never hit his daughter and he seemed to have a great job where he was appreciated and respected.

He said he was visiting a prostitute because he was having marriage problems and he was so upset he lost control.

Life can be weird. Dan meeting Leanne again must have been like dropping a match in a petrol puddle.

But Dan tried to reason with Leanne, but she wouldn't have it. Told Liz and oh dear that scene in the Rovers was horrific. Liz excelled in nastiness there. It was brutal and I felt sorry for Dan. He's lost the respect of his daughter and it looks like he might lose his job too.

I don't recall Dan trying to just reason with Leanne, but I do recall him acting rather menacing and threatening. I haven't seen Friday's second Corrie ep, but I doubt I would sympathise much with the violent thug.

He deserved everything he got. If he didn't want his daughter or anyone else to know he's a thug then he shouldn't be one.

I think he got what he deserved. Pretty sure what he did wasn't shown.

I don't either. I do recall that since their first exchange of threats to tell, he has never left her alone with his increasingly nasty threats at every opportunity that he keeps spitting in her face. If he'd just left her alone after the initial meeting, she might well have let it go.

It's perfectly clear that he hasn't changed one iota - as we will see this coming week, and the only person to blame for upsetting his daughter and his boss is HIM.

I get what Gusto means. He did try to reason but Leanne went into Battersby mode and he became desperate.

Yes he does still appear to be the same. However like Leanne we all have a past and go through bad periods. Everyone has accepted Leanne but she is quick that no ne else can.

There is a world of difference between what leanne did and what he did. She knows exactly what he did you her and others and didn't want Liz going through that. He proved he hadn't changed by his actions. Can't believe some are even feeling sorry for him.

I think Liz had lucky escape because if Leanne did not tell her about what he is like then she could have been in an abusive relationship

This story has come out of nowhere as we have never seen Dan before he joined the soap a few weeks ago. His inolvement with Leanne nine years ago was never 'obvious' as I don't recall Leanne coming home from her clients all battered and bruised.

This story is to be used as a catalyst for the Leanne/Simon domestic abuse story, and I bet Liz and Tony will reunite as Tony returns this week and comforts Liz.

I don't condone his actions 10 years ago either, far from it, but, much as Leanne is one of my favourite characters, she's hardly in a position to criticise anyone for having a past:- drug addict, arsonist, fraudster, thief, adultress, as well as prostitute!! If she had agreed from the start to leave the past in the past, then his threatening side would quite possibly have stayed buried!!! He obviously has shown no sign of it around his daughter all these years!!

However it was as it was & Leanne decided to tell poor defenceless Liz about it all!! What then followed was typical Liz!! No chance to defend himself or give his side of the story!! Just do what Liz loves best!! Wade in screeching like some demented banshee, maximum public humiliation, the more people to hear it the better!! Never mind that one of them was his teenage daughter whose life would be in tatters after hearing that about her father & never mind that the incidents were nothing whatsoever to do with Liz & happened 10 years ago, as long as she has had her say & feels better for it!!
The woman is as big a bully as he was then who likes nothing better than to have people frightened of her, or humiliated by her!!
All she had to do was take him quietly through the back, tell him what had been said & send him packing!! If he then showed violence, then obviously he hadn't changed so then would have been time for the floorshow but keep his daughter out of it!!

A shame, used to love her. Even when she cheated on Jim with that physiotherapist of his!! She was strong then, now she's callous and comes across as desperate.

What Liz did in the pub amounted to slander and defamation of character. She hadn't a shred of evidence to back up her claims : she was basing it solely on something she was told by someone concerning an incident a decade ago.

Telling a young teenage girl that her dad uses prostitutes and beats them up was outrageous, especially as this was hearsay only. Would anyone want to continue drinking at a pub where the landlady was a harridan hell bent on publically shaming the customers? (Dan was having a drink at the counter when the "lady" unleashed her onslaught).

So you think Liz, knowing that Dan is a man with a history of violence against several women, should speak to him privately and risk a beating!!!

She was absolutely wrong to tell his daughter (although the latter wasn't too surprised so she must have already had an inkling of what her father is capable), but Dan himself deserves no sympathy. It's better for the safety of the women in the community that his true nature is widely known.


I've hated Liz in the past (especially her bullying of Steve) but to compare her to someone who makes a habit of beating those physically weaker than himself is preposterous!

Clare's Law (which gives women the right to check if prospective partners have a history of domestic violence) was recently enacted because men like Dan are unlikely to change without professional help. He proved to Leanne he hadn't by intimidating and threatening her - which is why she changed her mind about telling Liz (a brave thing to do considering she risked Simon finding out about the prostitution).

I wonder if some posters would be so outraged at Liz outing Dan to the world if he had a history of beating women who weren't prostitutes (which a man like him is quite capable of doing)?

As for slander, it wasn't a court of law and he knows that Leanne could provide evidence if necessary. His face when accused said it all though.

Edited to add: I do think Liz should have taken Dan to the back room (with Steve as a witness) to break up with him - purely for her and Leanne's sake.

The pub regulars are not going to start visiting another pub because Liz outed her boyfriend. The people on the street have no reason to believe that Leanne would randomly make up a serious lie like that for laughs.

Interesting you've added that little edit at the bottom as that was my next point!! Let's say you were right & Liz did have the right to shriek accusations in a packed pub about something that had nothing to do with her and happened to someone else 10 years in the past, what then about the sheer stupidity of delibetately winding this bloke up who she's just heard is a sadistic psychopath!! Fair enough if she doesn't care about the repercussions to herself but what about the added danger she's placed Leanne in for goodness sake!! All she cared about was venting her anger for choosing a wrong bloke again, nevermind the consequences to anyone else!! You could practically see her salivating in excitement when Leanne told her, she couldn't wait for the confrontation!! Absolutely typical Liz!!

I agree with this! Dan is scum. The number of prostitutes beaten, robbed and raped every day in this country is very high. I think Corrie have done well in showing that it does happen to women on the game. I didn't know about Clare's Law so thank you for this

It's clear Dan hasn't changed at all, he still has his thuggish tendencies and will revert to type if given the opportunity.

As far as Liz is concerned, I did think she was out of order for blurting out the truth to his daughter but that's the only part I didn't agree with.

I agree that Liz went about it in the wrong way because riling a violent man like Dan isn't a sensible thing to do. However, she'd just found out he's a serial abuser and misogynist and was understandably very angry. She was probably also deeply shocked because she could easily have been his next victim.

I don't understand the point you keep making that it was nothing to do with her. She's seeing a man who has a history of victimising women and you don't think she has the right to know?!?! Thank goodness the law disagrees!

I'll ask everyone defending Dan: would you keep quiet if he was going out with your daughter/mother/sister? Wouldn't you shout it from the rooftops to protect those you care about? Or what if Tyrone found out Kirsty was seeing someone he knew in ten years? Should he not warn his friend about her abusive history?

All this outrage on behalf of a violent abuser (who's proved he hasn't changed one iota) is confusing and disturbing.
