But there is never, ever, ever any reason for a man to beat up a woman or for a woman to beat up a man and that does affect others. Anyone who does so deserves to be publicly outed and condemned by everyone.

Two women are killed every week by a current or former partner (source: Refuge). Not all of these women were sympathetic. Some of these women dressed and behaved in ways that would make lots of us shudder. Some of these women were promiscuous. Some of these women were prostitutes. Some of these women were feisty, nasty and could stand up for themselves.

Guess what? None of these attributes stopped them being victims. None of these attributes stopped them being murdered. Do they deserve no sympathy because we may have disapproved of them?

Obviously, this post also applies just as much to male victims. I certainly saw a lot of online anger at Kirsty's treatment of Tyrone - and it was totally justified.
