The 80's and 90's turned up some real pop gems, some great pop singers that had a handful of hit singles (or in some cases just the one) and then disappeared from view. Only to be remembered on 80's compilation albums (if they were lucky) and 90's dance CDs - oh and my iPod!
Let's hear it for;
Joyce Simms who hit the UK top ten in 87 with Come Into My Life,
Debbie Gibson who gave us the really rather wonderful Only In My Dreams UK 11 and
Mari Wilson who gave us the classic Just What I Always Wanted UK number 8 in 1982

Betty Boo. Started off in the late 80s as a featured artist on a dance record by The Beatmasters called Hey DJ I Can't Dance (To That Music Your Playing) then she went solo from 1990 with hits like Doin' The Do and Where Are You Baby?

In later years she became a songwriter for others. She co-wrote Pure & Simple.

No mention yet of Shanice? For shame, Digital Spy! Here's the one you'll probably have heard - she did other songs, one of which was the first thing I ever bought on CD. Without her I may not be the friend to all music (well, near enough) I am today... Blow, Branford, blow:

Kinda surprised to see you mention this song as its not her highest charting UK hit , she managed 6 UK top 20 hits and played wembley stadium back in the day opening up for Bros, she also did grease in the UK
Shes my all time fave artist.

Ill go with another great 80's singer who doesnt get any respect Taylor Dayne

I wouldn't say she's forgotten. Her last album peaked at #5 in the U.K. in 2013. She's regarded as one of the best British female artists.

She had her hits in the 70s. Linda Lewis is still around releasing the odd album but they don't really trouble the charts.

I have always felt sorry for Dina Carroll who had a number of hits in the 90s and was all set for even bigger things in the U.S. For some reason her next album release was delayed and delayed, then her record label made the disastrous decision to try and turn her into a dance diva. This was followed by her management company going into meltdown and all their artists were then dropped by the record labels including Dina as a result.

'Only In My Dreams' is her best song imo it would have been bigger here but the SAW stranglehold limited her airplay. How dare a teenage girl write better songs than middleaged men?!

did she not start as a feature artist on dance records?
With Quartz "It's too late"?

I don't find the direction that odd as most pop women have changed their music incorporating dance

Oh but Only In My Dreams is an absolute classic! It's the only one of her songs that I play on my iPod, and it reminds of someone as well ... so ....

This girl had huge hits on the continent but her british releases never had much promotion. She was later part of "Enigma" and still appears on german TV from time to time with her old songs.

Here;s a REALLY nice song by a singer I guarantee you have never heard of...

"Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" - Taffy McElroy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDlnHjiKais

This song was written by John D Loudermilk and featured on a 1981 LP only issued in the USA.
