HO can get itself out of crisis it it wants to

stop writing ridiculous storylines
bring the every revolving, repetitive storylines to a close (Maxine/Patrick, barmy Sienna to name 2)
stop making characters bed hop and sleep with anyone
stop having someone get killed every week

to name but a few suggestions

I see the silly season has started early this year and a Mirror journalist has been trawling the boards and cobbled together what some forum members have said in various threads!

While there is no denying that the show's ratings aren't as great as they used to be, the reasons being given for the decrease in ratings are absolutely ludicrous. Jorgie Porter has left once before and the show hasn't suffered because of it. Frankie Osbourne spends months without being seen on screen and Stephanie Davis' character Sinead has got its fans, but also plenty of detractors. I don't think Hollyoaks fans care two hoots about Daniella Westbrook's character and most of them can barely remember her name.

With a liberal sprinkling of fiction. I don't think any of us has ever said "Jorgie Porter is Hollyoaks"

It's the number of badly constructed sentences in this article that stand out for me. Surely if you write for a major newspaper you should be able to string a sentence together?

Imo Hollyoaks is in crisis but not because of recent events but solely because of Kirkwood.

Exactly. It's what the articles completely fail to realise.

It's just click bait. I am sure no one at channel 4 will pay any attention to it. Has nothing to do with HO's actual problems. If the Mirror is to be believed all they would have to do would be to give Jorgie a big pile of money to stay on the soap and most of their problems would go away.

LOL. The Mirror strikes again with high class journalism!!

Love it when it says C4 have put their plan into action to boost ratings, and have started a load of sensation rating boosting storylines etc and the six weeks of summer stuff.... Err, except C4/Hollyoaks do this every year, its not a new thing. And HO are always killing people, blowing things up etc, again nothing new!

And like others have said, quite a few things mentioned have no or little impact on the ratings. Why didn't they discuss storylines repeating themselves (Maxine/Patrick), storylines not having good aftermaths, characters shacking up with other characters left, right and centre, regardless of gender and sexuality, and the huge number of affairs that take place.
You'd think (and no doubt they do) the producers/writers pick two character names out of a hat and decide those two people will sleep together.

This totally!!
It was like when EE had crisis articles every week, most of them were completely wrong claiming the crisis was because the show was to depressing etc when actually it was because it was dull with no exciting story lines. Hollyoaks could be a great show but Kirkwood doesn't seem to care about making a quality serious show anymore like it was during his first era.

Plus making it clear that the writer knows nothing about the storylines at all (e.g. saying that Jason is sleeping with Holly behind Cindy's back ...)

When the press pick up on this - it is doomed..

Kirkwood has murdered this show

The journalist is lazy but let's not pretend Kirkwood hasn't damaged the show.

How does this article begin to fix any of HO problems? I doubt Kirkwood will pay much attention to it. If he did the only thing he'd take away from this is that he should spend more time policing the private behavior of the cast because its causing problems on screen. That's not what I think would make much difference.
