Chromecast now supports 50Hz output (as used in the UK/Europe). This should reduce picture judder, which is/was particularly noticeable on sport.

Hiopefully NowTV/Roku boxes will follow.

Good news for those it helps, but I just tried it and the picture became unwatchable.
Don't know why that would be?.
Anyway set it back to 60Hz and it's OK again now.
It was streaming US content though, maybe that's why?.

That's odd, what kind of TV is it? Rebooting the Chromecast after changing the setting may help, so the TV re-establishes the HDMI connection and notices the new rate.

I'm yet to test it but Initial reports are good with talk of smoother video when casting Now TV; although viewers of movies and US shows won't really notice anything different.

Its a Sony Bravia, had it a while now.
Not noticed any problem with the video anyway really on 60Hz,must try some UK content see if its any different.

Yes just tried the BBC iPlayer on the 50Hz setting and it was fine, then switched to the TWIT network video tech podcast, which is US based and its unwatchable, sound break up mainly.

So I will be leaving mine on 60Hz given that I watch a lot of TWIT and was not getting any real problem with UK content anyway. Nice to have the option to change though.

Ref my post above,
Had a bath and a think I am using a dedicated Chromecast app for the TWIT network.

The very same content is available on the TWIT YouTube page,so I tried that, and guess what it played without any problems on the 50Hz setting.

So it's something to do with that dedicated app that caused problems on the 50Hz setting.

So just be aware that some apps of American origin may not play nice on 50Hz in the UK.

How is your Chromecast powered? If it is going through the TV's USB port, perhaps there is not enough juice, and the new setting uses a tab bit more?

From the TVs USB port, don't think its that though as I only have the issue with just that one app.
Not much of a problem anyway as I only have to switch between 50/60Hz to use the TWIT app.

Pleased that the 50Hz option is there now.
