Are you seriously suggesting a £1.50 Tesco pizza tastes as good as one that is handmade and then cooked in a wood fired oven?

Even if you are, you are completely ignoring the different costs involved.

They obviously can decide the size of the portions they serve. You should have asked them directly by saying that you were unpleasantly surprise to learn that their portions are now smaller than they used to be, and ask if it was a coincidence or have they made them smaller on purpose.

The OH and myself are creatures of habit; we use they same place for our takeaways be it for Curry, Chinese, or Burgers/Kebabs.

We used the first time by happenstance, and were happy with what we got, so carried on going there, we ordered the same things every time, and they got to know us. Particularly the Chinese place where the sweet old Chinese lady who had limited English, would pull out an old written order of ours and just get on with it

Whether it because we were 'regulars' we always got a good meal, I can't say.

On the pizza issue, I do find takeaway places expensive and not that great for the price.

For the price, compared to the takeaways I think Chicago Town pizzas, and to be honest Morissons own brand deep pan load meaty pizzas are better value.

Maybe I have a grubby palate when it comes to pizzas

A ready made pizza base is not excellent. The base on those pizzas is disgusting for starters.

Why would printing nutritional information on their menus be so expensive?

How low are your standards? An excellent deep pan pizza for £1.50?? Really?”

My Grandson works part-time at Pizza Hut in the kitchen making pizzas. He had a £1.50 frozen cheese pizza from Tesco and said it was an excellent Margherita.

One of my ex's worked as a manageress in Pizza Hut, I know it's a fair few years ago now, but the most expensive pizza on the menu cost 70p to make and retailed for something like £12.

If I want a pizza, I buy one from the Co-op and add my own toppings.

A local cafe near here, Italian owned, chugged along for years selling bread, pastries and a few sit down light meals with tea, coffee and soft drinks.
About 18 months back they revamped the place and installed a magnificent wood fired pizza oven. They "glammed" the tables up with a few nice visual touches - red tablecloths, red linen serviettes and decent cutlery and wine glasses.
It's now a BYO drinks pizza restaurant (Off licence next door) and it's banging compared to the days of being a nice caff.
The BYO was free, now it's £2.50 per table because of demand.
They took bookings for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve and filled it.
The attraction is that it's within walking distance of a large catchment area with a busy "foodie" pub opposite.
You can see the pizza chefs perform and prepare your dishes.
Pizzas are between £9.95 and £12.95 and they're going from strength to strength.

They used to be 9-5 closed Sundays and a half day.
They're now all day to about 9.30/10pm.

With all due respect, working part time in Pizza Hut doesn't make you a food critic. The texture and flavour of ready made pizzas are not up to the standard of authentic pizzas.

I wasn't talking about Pizza Hut, their pizzas are crap. No wonder you think supermarket ones are good if Pizza Hut is your standard.

I always wonder what kind of pizza they have eaten? Pizza tastes totally different from bread and cheese! for a start its not bread.

if I want bread and cheese I make it at home. If I want a nice pizza with tomato sauce, thin base, herbs, cooked in a proper wood fired oven, with the toppings of my choice I know I need either a restaurant or takeaway

the bread and cheese argument is just stupid in my opinion.

You're lucky with that place. Usually those "do every kind of takeaway" places are only good at one type of food (usually the "native" food of the owners) with the extra-curricular food being horrible. For example, a kebab place might do rubbish fish and chips, or a pizza place do rubbish kebabs. I may be old fashioned, but I expect a Chinese person to serve me in a Chinese takeaway; somebody from the Indian subcontinent in an Indian; and a sweaty Turk/Greek/Persian in a kebab shop. Pizza places have become genericised, but I bet the best ones still come out of places run by Italians. Thin-crust ones in the American chains are often as hard as biscuits! Deep pans are more reliable but they get on my tits after a while.

I'm with burton on the pizza debate. Remember this is a thread about takeaways and i doubt anyone would argue that some resaurants sell very good homemade pizzas but they are rarely takeaways. We usually have a Goodfellas on shopping night purely for convenience.. Pop it in the oven, unpack the shopping and its ready. Of course, I could unpack, phone for an overpriced delivery and tuck into a barely warm, lump of tasteless stodge half an hour later or buy the pizza on the way home and eat a barely warm lump of tasteless stodge when I get home and curse that I've still got the shopping to unpack. Having said that, I'm not really a fan of any takeaways, prefering a homemade cheese and onion toastie if I want something quick.

So have your ideas of takeaway cooks.

I think all that proves is you need to find a better pizza takeaway.

Well not being able to conjure one up out of thin air I think I'll just carry on saving a few pounds each time.
