...every time it becomes about the Beales and the Mitchells, as tonight's episode showed once again. This isn't a coincidence.

Take note, DTC.

I like the Carters but the Lucy storyline is top notch and the Beales/Mitchells are fantastic

Still want to see the carters though

It depends on what you like. I thought tonight was all too predictable, and the police are always made out to be both unprofessional and idiots. I do love Keeble though.

I'm not sure why quality when it comes to the Beales/Mitchells vs. Carters has to be mutually exclusive. I've seen episodes featuring both that blown me away by how good they are, and I've seen others that have bored me witless when both sets of characters are involved.

Exactly this. The Johnny coming out episode was one of last year's finest but tonight was classic beale/mitchell

The Mitchells and Beales are the saving grace of EE not the Carters

I love them. Every episode focused around them always seems to be brilliant. The Slaters and the Brannings too

I don't give a stuff about the Carters, and I don't think it's any coincidence the show is generally poorer when they are shoved to the forefront. I've had enough of Shirley, Dean and Mick to last me a lifetime.

The last two episodes have been Beale/Mitchell-centric and the quality has shot up. This happens every time the focus switches back to these two families.

I see your point but can you honestly not say that the Johnny coming out episode was not equally excellent.

I agree about the rape storyline but that's the fault of the storyliners

I didn't see the Johnny episode but Stan's death episode was good and I like some of the Babe and Sylvie stuff. Mick and Linda are fine when they're landlord and landlady. Not fussed about the rest. It's all horses for courses. We all like different things I guess.

The Carters could leave tomorrow , I wouldn't miss any of them . The show would be just fine without them .

Johnny coming was excellent, and probably my favourite Carter storyline. I actually really liked the Carters until the rape story; now I think they are massively overexposed and overrated. I just don't care about them any more. Stan's death was good, but the Christmas episode was average at best.

In the last year nearly all of the standout episodes have been Beale/Mitchell-centric: Phil and Sharon's wedding, New Years Day, and the Live week. All brilliant.

The carters are so boring and depressing to watch including Mick,Shirley and Dean. The rape storyline is annoying me as well.

The past couple of eps have been excellent but there have been strong episodes focusing on the Masoods, Slaters, Brannings, Carters, Jacksons/Butchers and Truemans/Foxes too.

Fair enough bass.

I hope once the ridiculous rape storyline ends they can return to that for the carters.

It's great the focus has been on the Masoods Beales and Mitchells now too.

I'm a huge Mitchell fan and I love seeing them at the forefront but I think Kat at the convent and Stan's death were at least as good as tonight. Not to take away anything from tonight's episode because I thought it was excellent.

I disagree but I understand the point. When they come back to the Lucy storyline the story progresses and we're left wanting more because something new is revealed. Ever since Mick found out about the rape the Carters have just gone around in circles and there's nothing new to the storyline.

At least last week was about Nancy and Lee having secrets from Mick and Linda, giving two supporting characters a chance at the front for once.

But compelling scum!

The problem, if it is a problem, is that the Lucy murder storyline is more interesting than every other storyline in the show right now.

I'm at the point of turning off. This whole Lucy storyline is awful. They've destroyed the Beale family and seeing Ian behaving as he is is terrible. They've made them no better than the scummy Mitchells. How many more times have we to sit through a Mitchell in a police cell? It's rinse and repeat.
