Near everyone buys the most budget model, creating a real problem selling 64GB etc phones. Is trickery in only having 1GB Ram in the bottom end model (Moto G) the way to go to encourage higher priced configuration sales?

You'll be able to partition the card so it's treated as normal storage. No faffing with copy to SD, which many apps can't do or only a portion of data is transferred.

It solves the issue that Google has had for years and why it has not supported SD cards on its own devices.

Now there's no reason to do this, and it saves Google from having loads of different models to stock (colours, storage etc).

reading your post....do you guys all buy your phone up front and go on a sim only?

Personally I look at contract deals and work out how much it will cost over 24 months. Then I look at buying outright and then sim only over 24 months (harder because most sim only is 12 months but still works) then I go for the cheapest, which is usually SIM Only. I'm on a SIM free iPhone 6+ at the moment with an unlimited tethering one plan on Three so I'm not moving for the foreseeable future.

Yes - so I can change network, change handset, without being stuck for 24 months. Not all SIM only plans are as good as contract plans.

However, EE SIM only 10GB = £27/m, so over 24months = £648
iPhone 6 64GB at launch = £619
So total cost over 2 years = £1267

Whereas buying a 64GB iPhone 6 from EE was £350 down, and £45/m and only 4GB usage. Which comes out at £1430.

So I'm already £163 ahead, and I have 6gb more a month.

The 24 month contract is not free credit, you're paying for the credit in the pricing.

To be honest, most of my phones are on review so they often go back after a few weeks/months, but if I do buy then it's always SIM free.

Last phone I bought on contract was a Nokia 6210 in 1999/2000.

I was holding out for the new Nexus 5 to replace by trusty N4 but it finally died last week so I replaced it with a Moto X Play. Only had it a few days but it has been fantastic so far. It's almost stock Android and I can easily get a day and a half out of the battery while my N4 would struggle to make mid-afternoon without a recharge. Not bad at all for £249.

You could always return it in a couple of weeks and swap it for the Nexus 5 ( that is if the Nexus 5 is an even better phone) .

I'm looking forward to seeing the reviews of the new LG made Nexus after it comes out.
Although my over 2 year old Nexus 4 still works mostly fine its has crashed twice in the last 3 or 4 months and about 90% of the phones storage has now been used.
The Nexus 4 has been the best phone I have I have had so far so would been looking to get another Nexus but I will not be getting a new phone before January or February I would think unless my Nexus 4 decides to crash again before then.

I have never had a phone nor tablet die on me.

A reasonable review though it would be worth knowing the camera model. Amusingly, phonerated.com using a bot classes the negative as the heavy 159 grams.

I'd say the 70% screen to body ratio is the negative,a 6"+ smartphone can likely be more compact.

Looks like a great phone but I'm not sure it's worth the extra over the Moto X Play edition which is around £100 cheaper. I've had that for 2 weeks now and I've very happy with it.

This date of release us getting further and further back. It's poor for all these companies who just cant get a phone out on the market.

The longer they wait the more customers they potentially lose as the Nexus release will do doubt interest some who would have bought this.

I been reading online that both new Nexus phones that are expected to come out this week will have the new C type Micro USB and not the Micro USB that most phones use.
I got a Philips Android docking station that I have had for a few years now and it uses the normal micro USB.
I take it there will be adapters coming out so I can still use the likes of my docking station.
If I was to buy the new Nexus phone come January.
Thing it would be the new LG Nexus I would go for and maybe get the 32GB this time.
My Nexus 4 that now 2 years and almost 3 months old has crashed about 3 times this year and 90% of the memory on it is now full.

Darren, yes there are adapters. Type C is the future, expect all phones to be releasing with it in about a year. It should make for some better peripherals, something which is severely lacking for Android phones. And yes, go for the 32gb model. 16gb without micro SD is just not enough in 2015 if you intend to keep the phone for any length of time.

One thing forsure,the new type C will be classed as a bit of an inconvenience for the next few years.

And there is pretty much no gain for.smartphones.

Good for the sale of adapters, or just people opting to buy all new chargers/flash drives. I saw recently a whole batch of USB-C stuff from SanDisk. I guess that people would prefer not to have an adapter for a flash drive, so that's a nice little replacement market where people end up buying what they've already got.

(So by this, I mean it's good for the industry but not so much the consumer).

It's certainly fair to say a few years of pain will have to be endured first. But, once everyone has changed then - yes - USB-C will be a wonderful thing!

Well, I'm very tempted to get the Huawei Nexus phone if it goes on sale/pre-order later today*. That will have USB-C, which means I'll need to start buying a lot of adapters for all the chargers I have dotted around the house, work, portable battery chargers, docks etc.

I expect they'll be cheap as chips on Amazon, although goodness knows what the quality will be like.

* As long as Google has returned to sensible pricing for the Nexus line, not the premium it thought it could charge last year, which saw sales plummet.

It's reversible, so that will be a major step forward.

They are saying the Nexus 6P is $499.99 a conversion means £329 but thats not always the case.
I think at 160mm tall its going to be too big for me.

Add V.A.T and you're looking at £400. It's also too wide and tall for me, I might consider the 5X at £300 if it brings something exclusive like VoLTE on UK networks, but if not I'd say the OnePlus or Moto X are strong competitors.

Excited for the Nexus announcements today, Was expecting to have my decision/potential order in by the end of today between Moto X Style (which was MEANT to be released according to Amazon, yesterday) and new Nexus, but now i think from what I've been reading, Nexus is going to win it for me.

My Nexus 4 has been fantastic, although after almost 3 years, it definitely needs replaced, the soft keys stopped working last week (almost lead to a hasty purchase of a phone last Tuesday until i found the soft key app which has allowed me to wait for a phone I actually want) so the time is definitely right to replace. Hopefully the 5X meets expectations and is reasonably priced, not really expecting Nexus 4 cheap, but between £300-400 would be ideal if it's as good a phone for todays market as the Nexus 4 has been.
