Another Moto G popped up today; Motorola Moto G Turbo Edition

Only Mexico so far, still missing dual band wi-fi but has regained the gyro.

Will it come to the UK and be VoLTE compatible?

Come to the UK? maybe. VoLTE compatible? Unlikely.

How does this differ from the existing 16 GB model?

Snapdragon 615.

Motorola chose the wrong SoC again?

Found this little table about Qualcomm SoC)
http://www.lte-anbieter.info/Bilder/...gleich-big.jpg
ja=Yes, nein=no, for VoLTE

(What is at a SoC?
With a current Snapdragon SoC, the main processor (CPU), the graphics processing unit (GPU), the memory (RAM), the cellular modem, GPS module, the camera signal processor and various adapters and sensors for USB, Display and Multimedia are all located together on one chip. In addition still belong to a Snapdragon platform chips for wireless, audio codecs, NFC and the power supply.)

Seem overkill calling a Cortex A53 based phone turbo.

Lets hope 2016 becomes the year of real Soc competition.
That 'cheap' 615 is not even built at 20nm, it is 28nm!
Still, I guess with a full HD screen it is seen as a good value phone.

Is it full HD though? It didn't seem clear so I didn't say it did until I'm 100% sure.

I got that from here.

Most people have said it has full HD, but there have been some doubts raised.

Sadly, GSM Arena is no longer the definitive source of information it once was. There are many errors I've spotted, and given how many people turn to it for info, it's always funny when reviews of phones make the same mistakes as they were too lazy to check and just cut and pasted.

Anyway, whatever the case, 720 or 1080, it will be a good phone if the price is right - but people shouldn't discount the current Moto G. Plenty good enough for most people.

I've now got a Wileyfox Storm for review. £200 with full HD (5.5 inch) and SD615, and it scored 35,000 on AnTuTu - which is not far behind the Galaxy Note 4 and about 2/3rds of the performance of the LG G4 (SD808). Plus it has the same camera as the Xperia Z3!

It's incredible what you can get now for £200 or less!

Who can you check the facts with? Moto Mexico doesn't even list the phone, never mind the specs. I think makers should put more effort into making phones compatible with the networks to use as a phone not just as a handheld games machine.

A case of the blnd leading the blind, the original source backtracking.
They blame Motorola Mexico!!

I'm sure the toughness is not fully 3 dimensional but it is nice to see another real consumer orientated high end phone rather than the porcelain lime stuff we have gotten used to.

anyone interested in the new Galaxy A series?

looks good to me, plus unlike the S6, the A5 should have a decent battery life.

A5- 5.2 Super Amoled, fingerprint, samsung pay, full HD, s6-esque design, 2900mAH
A6- 5.5 inch
A3- 5.7" 720p (minus fingerprint and sammy pay).

Believe it's the A7, with the 5.5 inch screen. That aside, these look quite good as midrange devices and they all seem to adopt the S6 aesthetic, with the glass back. If I hadn't plumped for the S6 a month or so back, the 2016 A5 would have been worth a look. 5.2 inches is the max size I would go for.

With these new devices (apart from the A3), being Samsung Pay enabled, I just wish Samsung would hurry up, partner with some UK banks and bloody well launch Samsung Pay already!! Sick of seeing Apple Pay everywhere.

LG are making good use of their AMOLED then?
I am guessing the 'always on' simoly means sections of the screen can be kept on when using it for step counting, sport time keeping etc.

I realise base material costs for most smartphones tend to be around $20 but a $4 phone sounds crazy. Subsidised by the Indian government maybe, but with £15 smartphones here in the UK I am not so sure.

Maybe smartphones are evolving exactly how electronic watches and pocket calculators evolved.

Lol at the spin about the battery

Quote:
“Freedom to Talk

With its 1450 mAh battery, Freedom 251 gives you more time to talk, text, Play and watch videos without needing to worry about running out of power.”

While other sites elaborate on the 'overwhelmed server' I would go along with the above.
I sense it is some sort of scam, maybe involving a semi contract, or simpy a very limited supply, there to up sell other devices.

The phone spec was quite decent, even the battery was OK too, at least when you consider the very low usage of their prospective buyers.

'Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kirit Somaiya on Friday called the sale of ‘Freedom 251’ – dubbed by many as the world’s cheapest phone – a ‘ponzi bogus company scam’.'
http://www.india.com/news/india/free...51-com-957735/

'Journalists present at the event sensed something fishy last evening since the sample phones handed over to journalists for assessment was a poorly rebranded version of Chinese smartphone Adcom Ikon 4. Whitener was pasted above the logo of Adcom before handing it over to the journalists.'

The BBC had gone along with GMSARENAs initial reporting. I guess these days, the rush to print much happens before anyone thinks.

£15 smartphones are subsidised by the networks. The cheapest new, sim free smartphone I could find was this Alcatel at 30 quid

Why omit the wi-fi ac/5GHz band in 2016, ZTE Blade V7?

http://www.gsmarena.com/zte_blade_v7-7943.php

Otherwise it ticks most boxes for me.

I have seen the Moto G competing Doogee X5 Pro selling below £40 inclusive of postage from China.

So the subsidy on like the likes of the £15 Vodafone Smart FIRST 6 has to be fairly minimal, though obviously the only profit in it is what Vodafone pays Tesco.
