The Helio X20 SOC finally hits the shelves on the 23rd, starting with an overclocked X25. Considering the MP3 player uses the sensor CPU, some might consider the Meizu Pro 6 to have 11 CPU cores. |

Is 'Max battery' becoming the new norm?
http://m.gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/ne...ays-ceo-836788 "revealed plans for a Max model under the ZenFone 3 range and added that the ZenFone 3 Max will account for nearly two-thirds of total ZenFone 3 shipments" The current 's day battery' midrange Asus Zenfone Max sports a 5AH battery so it might seem people are ignoring small batteries when offered larger. For those happy with last years(clearance?) phones you can snap up the weighty current Max for just over £100. |

Moto G4 Plus is looking very good value for money.
£200 G4 Plus £170 G4 It seems for the extra £30 you gain double the storage (32GB), 3MP better camera (16MP), a fingerprint scanner and a turbocharger included in the box. The G4 Play looks to be the equivalent of the Moto E. |

I noticed O2 have the very new 5.7" LG Stylus 2 in stock.
A mid/budget priced 1080p stylus orientated phablet. Notable for the fact that it may be the only phone with a DAB+ receiver. |

So what happened to the rumoured Note 5 UK release in January?
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/1367...u-need-to-know Also Samsung put in patent for a dock that could work very well if it happens http://www.valuewalk.com/2016/02/gal...-next-phablet/ Will be interesting to see what happens in the next few months. |

Considering the supposedly new Gorilla Glass 5 is getting publicity despite it surviving drops 4 times out of 5, exactly the same as GG4, the new Moto X Force is worth a mention.
It will survive the exact same drop 100% of the time, plus it has a second touch layer in case one breaks. But it has one problem, that being that it is made by Chinese Lenovo. Inferior Gorilla Glass is made by a US company, thus the willing marketing. Handle headlines with care. http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_mot...eview-1435.php There is also the Z Force, I assume with the same unbreakable screen. The normal Z decides flashiness has to be a 5mm thick phone. (5.2mm to be exact). |

Apparently a new iPhone ( or Two) allegedly dispensing with the headphone jack, a couple of new Nexus phones form Google and a few other bits n bobs |

The new Honor 8 looks good, but I'm not sure about the $400 price tag. If that converts to £ as I think it will, it will be fairly steep for an Honor I think...

£369.99 before any offers (as Honor regularly does on its vMall.eu store). The most expensive model to date, but cheaper than the P9 and essentially identical except for having an infrared port AND shipping with the proprietary 9V/2A fast charger.
The camera interface is virtually identical, bar the Leica branding and typeface. The blue model is the nicest (as it's different) but the white is probably going to be most popular given it's so iPhone like. But I don't know the colour availability as yet, and can't say which network is selling it (it doesn't take much to guess!). |

They're really not comparable in any way, but given my current disillusionment with Android, I'd probably go for an iphone SE for the same money. Got to be a good option for someone looking for a solid Android choice though. |

Well, if you don't want Android then iOS is pretty much the only alternative. I mean, what else is there? Windows is as good as dead.
I like Android and I really like my P9. The H8 takes all of that, plus a few extra things and in a 'cheaper' case that I actually think in some ways is nicer. Certainly a break from the norm. |

My disillusionment is based on Android fragmentation, missing and late updates, and limited access to network features - hence I'm probably going to make my first foray into iOS territory with my next phone. It's a shame, as there's so much I like about Android, and the range of devices - I'm just sick of always playing catch-up with updates and network features.
Windows would never be an option.... ![]() Apple are catching up with Android features like Widget's in iOS 10 which Android had from the start. Next year they will finally use OLED screens. The dogma of Steve Jobs is finally being washed away. I've had a few iPhones a 3GS and a 5. I don't like them but with iOS 10 I see improvements. To their credit Apple have great customer service. Software updates and proper network support for VoLTE and WiFi Calling. This is basic stuff Google should be forcing OEM's to implement. Let alone the Nexus series can't even get right. The 2 years 9 months old Nexus 5 2013 and Nexus 7 2013 will not be getting Nougat. Meanwhile the 4 year old iPhone 5 will get iOS 10. This tells you all you need to know about how much Google care. I've no idea what Google are doing but it could be their downfall. This time next year with the 10th Anniversary of the iPhone there may be very little distance between Android and iOS features and hardware. |

I am certain I will one way or another get Android 7 on my N7 (v2) and N5.
I also feel that those who are concerned about fragmentation on Android should perhaps just stick with Nexus devices. The problems elsewhere stem from each manufacturer wanting to customise and create their own identity. For many people that's also just fine. Many builds are liked more than vanilla Android by their owners. Given the sales of Galaxy phones, there must be a lot of people who wouldn't even recognise normal Android and so would not even care about the latest update. |

Sure a lot of people wont know much about software updates, until they see that they are no longer able to use or update their apps due to the "your device isn't compatible with this version" message showing up on Play store. |

Given Google's lack commitment to Nexus devices compared to Apple I see little reason to purchase one.

Play Services and all the other core stuff is updated independently to the OS, so it's really just the lack of new OS features - not the inability to run your apps, or finding they suddenly stop working. Google stated it will not guarantee support for older devices but hasn't said it definitely won't, not that it won't support devs that do it themselves. |

What apps don't run on Android versions going back to V4 or perhaps even further? I would love to know a single developer that has an app that won't run (and that doesn't count those who gave up developing in 2009 or something).

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 running 4.0.4 ICS here are the apps that can't be updated. Amazon, Google Now, Google Chrome, Periscope, Snapchat, Nectar. How is that for starters? |

For me, the 6P is too big, and the 5X is too crap. If they released a new Nexus device I liked, I'd certainly be prepared to consider it. |

I think the complete opposite. iOS used to be massively ahead of Android: much better apps, much faster, more integrated.
But now Apple doesn't do anything to make it a good OS. Apple has literally added nothing useful to me in the last three years. |

Yeah, but you're on Vodafone. Only so much the device can do if the network features aren't there to be supported....

But none of those features are unique to the iPhone anyway. What's your point?
