I'm quite enjoying the Lucy storyline and how things we've seen in older episodes are weaved into the case. Such as the taxi driver and Ben/Jay's involvement in last night's episode. However, I think casual viewers must be confused by it! Watching it with my mother, she had no idea who the taxi driver was. She couldn't remember if Ben/Jay had actually mugged Lucy or not, and why. It is quite a lot to keep up with.

The casual viewer shouldn't be pandered to. If they are confused about what's happening then they should tune in more regularly.

I don't want to endure endless repetitive scenes just so casual viewers can keep track.

Yes. It would have been nigh on impossible to work out what was going on last night if you were a recent or casual viewer.

Exactly.

A small compromise I'd be willing to make for casual viewers is a very brief recap at the start of episodes such as last night's. I can see how that episode might be hard for casuals to follow. Otherwise it's a no to repetitive scenes. Awful.

To be fair, I think they did quite a good job last night. Other than not stating the taxi driver was the taxi driver, I think they filled in the blanks pretty well. They mentioned it was Bobby who killed Lucy numerous times, they stated how each character relates to Ben, they broke the news to Ian about what Ben did reminding us and telling new viewers, Marsden's importance to the story was elaborated by Ian and we were reminded of Max's involvement too.
