For me because it's come from absolutely nowhere with no steady build up to it!! I can undrrstand an addiction built up over time but one minute we've never even heard that Carla knew how to play poker or blackjack or anything else gambling related, thr next she's a hardened addict who's about to lose everything!!

It's all so contrived!! You can practically imagine the panic as Ali King announced her intended break from the show & the writing team desperately trying to scramble together some storyline that hasn't been done with Carla already!! " Oh yes, let's make her a gambling addict so she loses the factory & has to be bailed out by some Connor who's never ever been mentioned by Michelle, Paul, Liam, Tom or anyone else in the family!!"

What I don't understand is, she is already teetering on the brink of alcoholosm, that was how her & Peter started off, so if they wanted her to have a reaction to the guilt of thinking she'd started the fire that killed Kal & Maddie, why not just build on the addiction she already had!! It would have been far more realistic than just suddenly inventing a gambling addiction!!
The whole character is tired, worn out & suffering from chronic overkill to my mind!! Thankfully Ali K obviously agrees!! Carla was & still could be a great character but we need a long rest from 7 years of practically non stop huge storylines for her!! She's not the only character on the Street capable of playing out big storylines, & I am looking forward to some of those others coming back centre stage again once we get a change of personnel at the top!!
