Is Jane making a mistake about not confronting Bobby?
When Ian got back home and they were talking in the kitchen. He has a point, they have to talk to Bobby. It seems like Jane's refusal to entertain the idea is burying her head in the sand.
It's near impossible that she'll turn him in (to protect him) but not to even speak to Bobby might make things worse. Her complete stoicism while innocent people get sent down is shocking (I assume Max will be the one to get charged). Nonetheless it has made for compelling viewing. |

Of course she is [and she knows it].
In fact, had Steven not taken away Jane's ability to have children of her own, then I have to wonder if she might not feel as bound to the Beale family [and Bobby] as she is. Food for thought. |

McBeale? A mistake? The same McBeale that, when faced with a choice between attempting to save the life of the closest thing she had to a daughter, or dumping her in a ditch, chose the latter? Then had sex a day later on the very spot she hauled the corpse from, with the corpses father? Then covered it up for a year? Then suggested throwing her brother-in-law under the bus for it?
I doubt she's made a mistake. |

We are seeing the other side of Jane Beale and just how ruthless she can be, when it comes to protecting her son. It all makes perfect sense of course. Stephen Beale took Jane's ability to be a mother away when he shot her, a part of Jane died that night. It was only revived when she became Bobby's legal mother via adoption.
But then, her marriage to Ian failed spectacularly. Jane found herself in an unhappy marriage to Ian and along comes a nice man from Cardiff, who sees the potential in Jane, more than just slaving away in Ian's greasy spoon and the chippy, more than the latest mother to Lucy and Peter. After years of living with Ian, looking after his businesses and his kids, only for him to do the dirty on her, she left Walford and Bobby behind, to follow her ambition of running a restaurant. Not much has been mentioned of Jane's time in Cardiff and why in fact, she did return to Albert Square. But it could be surmised she feels enormous guilt for the disintegration of the Beale family after she left. Ian would go on to find another doomed relationship with Mandy, which in turn lead to his complete mental breakdown. This lead to Lucy and Bobby fending for themselves at number 43. Where was Jane during all of this? When Ian got better, he picked up with Denise but then that began to fall apart also. By the time Denise wanted out, young Bobby had reached the end of his tether. I loved Phil's conversation with Ian tonight and that ominous line "Sort your son out before he turns out like mine" we of course know, it is all too late for that. Bobby Beale is a killer...he just doesn't know it yet. Ian and Jane know Bobby has changed. There is a damaged young boy, terrified of losing his family again. They are his parents and they have to take their responsibility. No mother can bare the idea I'm sure, of their child being a killer. How does a family go on knowing that one sibling killed another? The secret which slowly poison the family and also result in someone else's life being ruined by being falsely accused. Also, the increasing mentions of Kathy. What would she think if she knew Ian and Jane even considered letting Ben take the wrap for something Bobby did? I cannot wait to see what happens next. |
