iPad video output

Hi,

I have been trying to output sound and video from an iPad 2 with the old style connector to a TV that accepts a composite connection (yellow, white red) but only the audio is working.

I read on some apple support forums that this is because apple stopped 3rd party apps (I am using VLC) from being able to output the video and older versions of iOS didn't have this restriction.

Does anyone have any experience or this issue? Did you resolve it? I read that there is a setting to switch video output on and off but I doubt it's this simple (I have not tried this yet, so maybe I am wrong).

Thanks for reading all this and for any help!

Have you checked with the other apps on the iPad to see if any of them can output video? If at least one app can then that does at least prove the lead and your TV are working.

And have you confirmed by using another device that you know works OK that the Composite Video input on the TV works? Would be a bit of a waste of time chasing iPad solutions if it turns out the telly is the problem

Yeah that's all on my tick list as well . I tried it briefly last night and like I said the audio was working but not the video. Just from my googling and reading the apple forum this is a common problem. I will check all the things you mentioned though. I have a laptop as well but it's easier to take the ipad to the TV than my laptop which is quite hefty.

Thanks!

I've only tried video with iPad 1s and they were just as picky about what apps could and couldn't output video. But always worth eliminating other causes where possible so you know you are chasing the right fault.
