Neither are coming back at all, as I've said all along.

I get the same feeling despite the denials, guess we're see if they are back in 2016 certainly won't be till later that year it seems.

It's only for 6 weeks so I'm sure it won't impact on Eastenders (when they return etc.)

I don't think they are returning. The Kat and Alfie fans won't be happy if they are not coming back. The show is not all about Kat and Alfie anymore.

The show has never been all about Kat and Alfie.

I agree they're not returning though, I'm not sure why either they or DTC won't just come out and admit it.

I have a feeling Jessie Wallace will return (or they're hoping she'll return) alone and Alfie will be killed off in the spin off series.

They've confirmed they're returning. How or why would this affect that in any way?

it seems it doesn't matter how many times the powers that be, Shane & the press say that Kat and Alfie are returning to Eastenders no one seems to believe it. Maybe because it's what they wish that they don't return

this is tour actually fits with them returning because I would imagine that there six part show will be Shown around the start of feb

I actually would like to see them return if there were plans to give them some good material, but I don't think they will. Jake Wood has already signed a contract for his return which has been announced, Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie have not. This touring play means Kat and Alfie won't be able to return on screen until June at the earliest, and that will be quite a few months after the spin off has aired its finale. Both actors are looking for other projects and will probably relish the opportunity to act out some stronger material. Since their return they haven't been given one good story and it probably makes sense for them to look for work elsewhere.

Can't disagree with this. Kat only had a handful of episodes that were worthy of the old character.

BIB I think you're correct there. People are just hoping they don't return. Personally I can't stand Shane Richie / Alfie and I hope he is killed off in the six part drama.

Good post. It's interesting that they haven't announced that they've signed new contracts. It could be that it's being kept under wraps. I think the material given to Jessie Wallace / Kat didn't do her justice. Alfie was never funny the way Shane seems to think he is. If Kat remains a millionaire and returns to be with Stacey without Alfie and is given a makeover and fresh material she'll be good to watch, for me.

The convent episode was good and the Whitney episode was good but that's about it. None of the stories have been good whether Kirkwood, Newman or DTC were in charge. Characterisation was better under Newman though.

I think there is still mileage in Kat but not Alfie.

To be honest, I'd rather havre Kat and Alfie than wall-to-wall Carters, with Shirley in almost every scene.

The premise of the play looks brilliant - just googled it. A couple who have been married for 20 years, marriage has gone stale and they pretty much hate each other so both plot to kill the other. One succeeds ... if they can avoid falling into "Kat and Alfie" mode this could be really good as they can both act. Not doubting their ability to play different characters, but when you've worked with somebody in one role for so long, it must be difficult to see them as somebody else!

I'll wait for the reviews just in case Shane goes down the cheeky chappy route but if all is well I might go and see this!

The play does sound good, at the very least I expect it's stronger material to play out than anything they've done together since the return. They must love working together but I imagine they've felt dissatisfied with the scripts and stories so this is a wonderful opportunity for them to act together again but from the first decent script they've shared in ten years. The longer they're away working with better material the less inclined I think either will be to return.
