Max conned Ben out of his Dad's business whilst Phil was in jail. He didn't care less about the consequences for Ben and Sharon and Abi who loved Ben. He should have done the right thing and given it back and he wouldn't have lost everything. He deserved what he got.

Max hasn't even remotely paid for all the humiliation he has piled on his family and particularly his daughters. Sleeping with Lauren's best friend and then the police woman investigating her death were just too much and some kind of madness from Abi and price to pay by Max was just waiting to happen

Abi is a bit stupid to suspect Max. Both of them know the other had an altercation with Lucy before she died but both of them also know Lucy's body was found on the common. Abi knows Max came back from walking Tramp so Max couldn't have been gone long enough to kill Lucy, put her body in the car unseen, drive to the common, dump the body off the beaten track and then dive back home. He was gone longer than he said but surely not that long. If she thinks he did then surely she must also suspect he had help

Max was convinced that Phil killed his police GF. And in the end it was a pissing contest for max/Phil - no love was lost there.

Max was single and could sleep with anyone he wanted. He was already shamed for sleeping with Lucy. So he likes sex, doesn't mean he deserves to be set up as a murderer. Abi knows her dad didn't do it, and while she had suspicions wanted to protect her dad- max had similar suspicions and took steps to protect Abi it made zero sense for her action especially after she and her dad made up.

If max still has to pay penance for his"crimes" lord have mercy on all the other residents.

I think she'll realise the enormity of what she's about to do and back out.
