They should just do away with line rental and have it on cost of broadband package then be better to see the full cost I think.

Line rental is still there as not everyone has Broadband. Adding line rental to BB cost is not exactly difficult, and yes others are bound to follow the leader.

The thing to bear in mind is the wholesale line rental price is a fraction of the retail price all these providers quote , and it is done that way to disguise the real cost of broadband, say you are a ISP, you buy line rental from Openreach for about £8 a month, you offer broadband for £3 (on the face of it an attractive price) but you mark up the line rental to £17, making £9 per month on the 'line' subsidising the broadband ( because in reality broadband costs the ISP much more than £3) but you can imply to your customers 'it's not us , it's them bar stewards at BT that charge us for the line, we simply pass that cost on to you ' and lots of punters go away thinking exactly what the ISP wants them to think, it also generates all these posts about how line rental unfair, I'm sure many think as they don't use the line for telephony they should only pay the £3 , because it's only used for broadband ...what we should have (in my opinion) is a cap on the mark up ISP's can make on line rental, this would force them to be honest with what the broadband costs Look at Virgin Media, who don't have to make wholesale access to their network available to other company's...get broadband only lowest speed £28.50/month |

As already stated not everyone has broadband , and not everyone with broadband rents the 'line' from the same company that they 'rent' broadband from,

Well with millions of line rental customers BT can raise line rental to
pay the billion pound they paid for the champions league. they will make more than 10 million a month from this rise |
