It's annual price rise time!

Here are the price rises relevant to landlines:
BT line rental to increase to £17.99.
Call set up fees (where applicable) to increase to 17.07p
Anytime calls increases to £7.95

There's a deal for those that just want a landline: line rental + anytime calls in a package called Home Phone Saver 2018, a fixed price deal for £20.99 a month until 2018.

Plusnet started the annual cycle, now it's time for BT. Won't be long before everyone else starts. (Wholesale prices have in contrast remained stable)

I've got Infinity 2 and anytime calls. I pay my line rental 1 year upfront and get a discount. It's fast and it works - what's the problem ?

I used to but now it's £180+ I feel it's too much so just pay monthly. You only save £20 over the year now anyway.

£194.28 from September! It's not the great saving it once was, saving only £21.60 and keeping you with BT for 12 months as its not refundable if you want to change suppliers

Anyone know what SSE are like, because their prices are cheap.

£12.50 for SSE Ultrafast BB (upto 76 mbps) unlimited & weekend calls
£12.00 line rental

12 month talk contract & 18 month BB contract

24 months half price BB then goes upto £25.00pm

I paid a year up front in February. Does that mean my line rental does not go up until Feb16 or will I start to be charged the extra straight away?

You will be fine until February, then if you want another year being tied to BT you will need to pay them £194.28!

Of course, while the line rental element is covered until February, other charges that make up the whole BT bill, e.g. any inclusive call packages are still subject to rise from 20th September.

It's a disgrace!! I have just renewed Infinity 2 for 18 months + BT TV & pay Line Rental Saver so we are ok till January, I will pay Line Rental Saver again in Jan but come January 2016 I'm leaving because Virgin Media are laying cables around here & should be up running by then Virgin have emailed me to say we are getting it very soon..... Not soon enough for me

Virgin Media do, but the snag is you pay more for the Internet & of course cable has to be in your area.

Prices just went up 10 months ago. So its no even been year.
I don't have anytime calls just evening and weekends. For anytime calls would be waste of money for us a we don't use the phone much during the day.
I already pay £17.99 for line renal plus as I don't pay by direct debit. I pay towards BT bill via the BT payment card.

That is the piss take, having to pay full monthly line rental whilst making NO voice calls as they are covered by my mobile contract

Its time we were allowed to pay reduced line rental for the reduced service we use

The line still has to be maintained for your broadband service though, so why should it be reduced?

I would still have a phone I prefer using it when indoors and use my mobile when I'm mobile

Because with Naked Broadband there wouldn't be an expensive telephone exchange sitting on the end of it... the same way that a hotel restaurant wouldn't add an accommodation charge to a non-resident walking in and ordering a meal.

I've just received an email - apparently from BT - advising of the changes mentioned in the OP's post.

It actually arrived in my spam folder and didn't address me by name. It just said "Hello" and went straight into the message. Because of this I didn't click on any of the links, in case it really was bogus. I'll phone BT later this morning to get some clarification.

Has anyone else received a similar emal?

If it said something like this then it's okay.

"Changes to your account

Hello,

We're changing some of our prices

Thanks for staying with BT. We're always looking for ways to give you more. That's why we're introducing things like the chance to double your data, AMC, our brand new US drama and movie channel and our best ever online protection - all for free.

To keep bringing you our best products, we do have to change our prices sometimes. So, from 20 September 2015, line rental is going up by £1 per month. To find out more (and for details of other price changes including some broadband and TV prices) please click here. But don't forget, there are still plenty of ways to get an even better deal.

If you'd like to get any of the offers above, register your interest and we'll email you back when they're available.

We want to make sure you get the best deal for you. So, if you want to change something, or even leave because of these price changes, and you're within your minimum contract period, you'll need to call us within 30 days of receiving this email to avoid paying a charge for leaving early. You'll need to give us 30 days' notice to leave (or 14 days5 if you're switching provider), starting from the date you ask us. We won't charge you the increased price during that time.

Thanks for choosing BT.
