I would recommend using the checker of an ISP that uses the BT network for sure - Zen is a great example, Xilo (aka Uno) is another good ISP. I'd bet that a positive result would be returned, as I have been saying all along - BT are never the only option |

I've just cancelled the whole thing they never even tried to keep me after 3 years. I'm moving to sky.

Plusnet £1.50pm (taken into account the line rental increase and the fact it is a 18 month contract not a 12 month) cheaper or SSE which are massively cheaper but don't know how good they are. Plus any cashback offers but they cannot be relied on. |

I ordered Sky at lunchtime today. This evening, I get BT emailing me to confirm Sky have contacted them. It also confirms no termination fees for BB or phone which is good.
Fingers crossed it all continues to go well... Sky have been good to be in the past, especially this month, they gave me a 2TB box for £49. |

The phone service is rubbish by the way, or it used to be at least. Call charges were silly compared to competitors and from afternoon into late evening I was plagued by cold calls. As soon as I took out broadband (I inherited the landlords old connection when I started renting the house) I dropped the phone but they charge you more for the broadband outside of the package so you only save a small amount. |

This exchange has BT as the sole provider of broadband services.
Even the likes of Sky and TalkTalk will supply broadband to people on exchanges without their own equipment, although it is usually more than they would charge for customers with equipment in the exchange, but can still be cheaper than BT. Have you actually looked, or just assuming? |

I cancelled my BT Infinity 2 and call plan today, citing the price increase. It was free of charge (I had 11 months contract remaining) and I've just signed up for SSE 'UltraFast' Fibre & Talk this evening.
I paid roughly £37 a month for my BT Infinity and line rental, the SSE deal is working out at £17.50 (including line rental!!) per month over 18 months taking into account £126 cashback from TopCashback. Thats over a £300 saving over 18 months!! I hope SSE's product is as reliable as Infinity 2, we'll see! Might have to buy myself a VDSL2 router as I don't think I can use the HH5, although, i do have the option to enter a broadband username and password on the HH5? I've also heard the Technicolour routers supplied aren't up to much either. |

So, I bottled it!
I'd heard nothing at all from SSE, fuelled by a lot of bad online reviews, saying that it took over a month to get switched to them. I phoned them to cancel this afternoon, took around 15 minutes to answer and when they did (the guy was extremely polite, couldn't fault him there), he had no idea about my order and it wasn't even on the system (I ordered on Friday 31st July!). He took my details and said the order would be cancelled. Just to be sure, I emailed them too detailing my intentions. I've since this afternoon signed up for Virgin Media 100Mb. I guess you get what you pay for. I was with Virgin two years ago but moved due to a good deal with BT at the time. We'll see how it goes this time! |
