I agree.

It's much more a case of Ryan's fans setting the bar way to high by calling him a great actor. De Niro. Al Pacino. Daniel Day Lewis. Ryan Hawley...seriously?

I don't like Daniel Day Lewis as I don't like method acting. Actors like jack Nicholson are the true greats to me as they turn up put in amazing performances without having to live and breath the the character like Daniel day Lewis.

I'm not saying he's not great but I prefer more natural actors

Method acting goes way back to the likes of Brando. Personally i dont care how an actor prepares for their role.

Brando was far from the best actor imo

Oh come on, it's all in context! I don't think anyone's claiming he's De Niro great, he's on a UK soap and he's still learning. Saying he's great in Emmerdale just means he's enjoyable and engaging to watch, surely. Not that he's up for a BAFTA. You are being very literal.

Anyway, I can only speak for myself. I do find him enjoyable most of the time, in spite of some of the overheated soapy material he's been getting.

He's not one of my favs either but in his prime he was very highly regarded by other actors and directors and he was also very influential.

That's it!
Enjoy them for what they are as soap characters and actors.

Probably Karl Davies turned it down. He knew Robert's history. They didn't change Donna much.

Karl definately did turn down the chance to return. Early last year they approached him. He said he'd never say never to a return but was unable to do so at that time because of other commitments.

Robert's still the same character at heart, with nine years of off-screen experiences to make him what he is now.

He was always hot-headed, devious, malicious and selfish, nothing's changed there.

But Karl Davies played him straight down the line. There was no hint of the gay panto villian that he is today.

Why has Robert turned into this villain is it because when Jack adopted Andy and Robert resented it or is it when Sarah his mum died and he knew Andy set fire to the barn

Robert was adopted by Sarah. His mother was Pat Merrick.
Robert and Andy were school friends and when Andy's granny (I think) died he went to live with the Sugdens. Andy was always interested in the farm and liked helping Jack but Robert had no interest at all. Becuse of this Jack was spending more time with Andy and Robert (his own fault) was jealous.

He didn't know at the time that Andy had set fire to the barn.

I did wonder if Karl Davies turned the role down because they turned Robert gay. I might be wrong though.

No, it's already been said. He didn't rule out coming back, but he had other commitments, and KO couldn't wait any longer, presumably because she wanted Robert to come in at the same time as the Whites. He's been quite busy recently I think.
