Hi was looking to get into trying peanut butter. Have looked around but there are so many brands out there. This morning I tried Sun Pat Crunchy on some toast and found it rather bland tasting.

Any better suggestions?

Just make sure it doesn't contain palm oil and contains lowered amounts of sugar and salt. The Meridian brand is very well received and has no unnecessary additives. It is also includes the skins, so contains a healthy amount of roughage. It isn't the cheapest, but some of the cheap brands are quite nasty concoctions, bulked out with cheap fat and high in sugar and salt.

Personally, I tend to use Whole Earth Organic crunchy peanut butter.

I would 2nd the Meridian peanut butter.

I always use to have the usual stuff (Sunpat and supermarket brand ones) and then saw an offer on Amazon for 6 jars of Meridian so I bought 4 lots (so I had the free delivery).

At first I did not like the taste (even though I don't have much salt in my diet anyway), but then I got to love it and when I try any of the usual brands I can't stand it now.

You have to give it a sterr at first as the oil separates from the peanuts as it does not have any stabilizers in like the usual stuff.

This is the stuff I get when it's on offer on Amazon or in Tesco (it does go down to £1 a jar a lot of the time though (pack of 6 for £6)): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meridian-Nat...eridian+peanut

Can see on this Amazon price tracker how often the price goes down: http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Meridi...context=browse

In my opinion the Whole Earth Organic Peanut Butter is the best one. If you're new to peanut butter though then I would start off with a supermarket own brand one, as if you go straight to the organic, no sugar etc ones then you might find them a bit dry,

I buy Sun-Pat no added sugar Peanut Spread - either smooth or crunchy. It's easily available at the supermarket and it doesn't contain Palm oil.

The jar left on a shelf. Or locked in a safe and dropped into a volcano*. Or that may just be me not being a fan of peanut butter..

For me I think it's the texture more than the taste, so kinda overly sweet & cloying. A bit like eating a dollop of peanut flavored glue. Sometimes with crunchy bits in it. But again that's probably just me.

I have occasionally managed to eat it, and it's possibly a bit like Marmite. So don't slap a huuge dollop onto toast until you've aclimated to taste/texture. So when I've had it spread thinly, it's been edible. Mostly

But I'm still not a huge fan. I have noticed there's quite a lot of difference between varieties, not just crunchy vs smooth. So I guess sensible thing to do is try a selection of brands until you find the one you like

Second the Whole Earth peanut butter - you can get it with sunflower, pumpkin and flax seeds and it's lovely.

As said though, it does have a different texture to some of the 'own brand' ones though.

Myprotein do 1kg tubs of almond, peanut and cashew butter. Smooth or crunchy and all 100% nuts with no oil, salt, sugar etc.

No thanks, it's bad enough confined to a jar without having bits of it all over the kitchen in various stages of preparation.

Why would there be bits of it all over the kitchen? One simply roasts the shelled peanuts in the oven and then toss them into a food processor. One can add oil or honey. I don't have any mess, just what is left in the food processor which is easily cleaned.

So they've been in the oven, the food processor, probably other receptacles, as well as contaminating utensils.
No thanks. The smell must be revolting.

It's bad enough living with someone who seems to want to eat it every day.
The compromise being that it is otherwise kept in the jar in the fridge, wrapped in a plastic bag.

From a health POV I agree, although Whole Earth also contains added salt and palm oil, but from a taste POV its down to the individual and I prefer Skippy

If you want a totally additive free one, you're best popping into your local health food shop or looking online. Meridian is a widely stocked brand.

I agree. No added sugar in this one. First on this principle alone.
