I don't think I am naive (note the spelling) about the so-called "underworld", having had a father who knew the Kray twins well (although he didn't get involved with their "work") and having lived quite close to them myself. That was real violence, but there were also unwritten rules that everyone lived by, including who they would target. You weren't even a twinkle in your father's eye then. There are modern equivalents.
What's depicted in soaps is someone's idea of a villain. There's usually what they like to think of themselves as a "Mr Big" (the intelligent one) who is often a pretty boy and gets others, who are thick as planks, to do the beating up for them. Jez Quigley was the exception. Bear in mind that these shows are on in the early evening with children watching. Callum is a joke.
As you well know, boxing isn't cowardly as the intention isn't to actually cause them real harm - it's a regulated, disciplined sport. Bare knuckle fighting on the other hand ..................
Having seen real life violence with the Krays, I still say it's a sign of cowardice and lack of ability in other areas..
