What were the best and worst soap funerals?
Question is in the thread title.
Does anybody remember Todd Lander's funeral? |

Blanche's funeral in CS was a perfect blend of sadness and comedy. I particularly loved Deirdre's eulogy. A fitting send off.
![]() Also loved EE's Max "going against the grain" and telling it exactly like it was at father Jim's funeral. A refreshing change. Sadly marred by Sonia suddenly launching into a screeching rendition of "My Way" (sans trumpet!) |

Phoebe McQueen's recent funeral in HO was a total disgrace and had the mark of Bryan Kirkwood written all over it.
Why does Channel 4 let this pig headed arrogant cretin continue to spread his misery all over the soap? |

Can't beat Den Watts funeral with Peggy screeching "Chrissie Watts! Murderer!" and shoving her onto the coffin.

Frank Butcher's was the best funeral, although I did like Heather's twin sized pink coffin.
![]() ![]() Worst was Lucy Beales...everyone kept walking out, including her father. |

I liked Frank Buthers funeral. Very touching I thought. Especially with the Julia's theme. The worst for me sadly is Deirdre's. Kens speech was the worst speech ever! Not personal or emotional at all. I would of liked Travey to have done a speech for her Mum as well. Maybe apologising for all the grief she caused Deirdre over the years. But no it was all about having Ken having a go at Tracey. Completely ruining the funeral. They could of done so much better.

Well Blanche's in corrie was brilliant. However on the flip side not long after, Betty's was a disgrace. Dierdre's recently was really bad too.

I can't really think of any that were especially great tbh, soap really doesn't seem to do funerals well at all. Dunno about actual worst but one I really, really disliked was Lucy Beale's. Absolutely nothing like a real funeral, barely anything said about her, the Max crap, it was just rubbish.
Sadly Deirdre's really wasn't very good either, which is a real shame for such a legendary character. Pretty much any funeral in Hollyoaks is shockingly poor. |

Phoebe and Jim in hollyoaks were both truly dreadful, with Robbie her supposed soulmate missing Nancy on the day of her funeral and Sonny and Carmel also on the day if Jim's funeral.

I can only speak for Corrie but Blanche's was superb!! Little Paul Connor's was the saddest but brilliantly acted, Liam's was another sad one!!
Worst ones, Betty's was certainly among the worst with Stella suddenly taking over the show after knowing Betty all of 5 minutes & Ashley's was very disappointing to me, hardly got any coverage for a popular Street character who'd been around over 10 years & had just died a hero!! Forgot to mention little Billy Grimshaw's!! Another one that was so sad but very well acted!! Tina O'Brien was a good actress & Sarah a good character in those days!! How times change eh!! |

There are two that spring to mind:-
Alan Turner in Emmerdale - I loved the bikers! Gina Palmer in Home & Away - Gina is one of my all time favourite soap characters and the funeral was very moving. |

H&A - Flynn Saunders funeral was very moving, everything from the speeches and poems to Sally releasing his ashes into the sea with everyone following behind with matins. I was crying by the first speech .
Also Rocco Braxton's funeral was heartbreaking, Brax bringing in his little coffin, I still remember very clearly Heath and his brothers going out to sea on his surf board and the releasing a reef. Lisa Gormely really did that storyline justice. |

Emmerdale: Jack Sugden's will always be the most well written funeral episode to me. The way the writers brilliantly wrote it as a homage to the premiere episode was perfection.
Worst: Deidre Barlow. What that past writer said about how hollow and empty it came off was completely true. Completely disrespectful to one of the most iconic soap characters ever. |

Most of them annoyed me.
People coming in late. Banging doors. People looking round. Talking |

Ah yes Peggy decking Chrissie is a CLASSIC soap moment.
I pissed myself when she said "terr 'im yorr sowwy" (tell him you're sorry) right before she swings. |

Frank Butchers was handled well, it said a lot that so many 'family' members returned.
