Frank Butchers for sure was great, especially as it marked the return of Janine! Also you had the wonderful moments revisited between his relationship with Pat.

I agree with this. I thought that Deirdre's funeral was a disgraceful send of for Ann Kirkbride. They could have done so much better. There was not a tear shed in our house, there was no emotion.
Baby Daniel's in Emmerdale was extremely well done. By far the most upsetting for me.
Shadrach's was brilliant too, it was a proper Dingle funeral and they all toasted to him with cans - it sounds wrong but it was the perfect send off for him! The DIngle's never seem to do any "Dingle" stuff any more. We need more Dingles!

I didn't actually watch Deidre's funeral after the disgraceful episode where Ken & Tracey were told. I don't watch CS any more but I wanted to watch because I watched for years whilst Deidre was in it. I expected something beautiful and amazing. It was just.... empty and forgettable.

It was terrible. When Bev came to tell them, it was one of the most cringe worthy moments ever.

The only soap funerals I would class as good ones are the ones where the deceased relatives actually show up. I understand it's difficult to get former cast members back who have quit but it's just so unrealistic and we get ridiculous excuses like they're too upset to attend. In real life people move heaven and earth to attend loved ones funerals I have relatives in South Africa, Australia Germany and Canada and when my grandad died every single one of them traveled here to attend the funeral. Frank Butchers was probably the best one which realistically saw the returns of Ricky, Bianca, Diane and Janine.

I agree, Jack's funeral was very well done, they even had the "old" Robert Sugden standing in the background. It was a real triute.
Deidres funeral was a disgrace, more about everyone else than an actress that had been in the show for years, but we were instead insulted by the Callum/Sarah/Ken/Tracy crap. As for Liz carrying the coffin, ws that meant to be a joke, as was her remarks about Deidre being her best friend.
Arthur Fowler's funeral in EE was also beyond belief. Pauline, his "wife" didn't even attend. I heard there was friction between "Arthur" and Wendy Richards, but FGS, it was the character's "Funeral", let's at least try and keep it real.

Yes Ashley's funeral was very strange, it showed everyone getting ready for the funeral, then there was an as break & when it returned the cast were in the pub for the wake saying what a nice service it was! I remember thinking at the time what did the chap who played Ashley do to pee off tptb so much that he didn't even get an onscreen funeral.
Betty's I agree with u as well, it was just terrible how it became part of the Stella show instead if a decent tribute. And that tripe about her having secretly owned the Rovers for years didn't make any sense. How could Alec Gilroy, the Duckworths, Fred Elliot & then Steve have bought it if that were the case? And why would she remain working there as barmaid/hotpot maker presumably for minimum wage when she could have put her feet up in the back & let everyone else do the work for her & collected the profits? Why didn't she get a share of the profits? And didn't somebody sack her? I forget who but it was a new manager coming in (possibly Stella herself, the hypocrite). Why didn't Betty say "oi u can't sack me, I own this place!"
Deirdre's funeral was truly awful. Ken would never have disrespected Deirdre by having an argument with Tracy. I expected to be moved, yet I was simply left disappointed. Bill Roach should have been left to write the eulogy himself; his speech at the NTA's in January was heartbreaking.

Yeah it was complete & utter nonsense from start to finish & I actually found it an insult to one of my favouite ever Corrie characters, pretty much like a lot of people are saying about Deirdre's!!
Strange how Collinson got it so brilliantly right with Blanche's yet, just a short time later, so wrong with Betty's!!
Actually another funeral I thought was quite well done was Jack's!! Alan Halsall as Tyrone played a blinder in that!!

Corrie have the best/worst funerals in my opinion:
Blanche's was the best - the perfect blend of comedy and sadness. I think that was the perfect way to tribute one of the show's best ever (imo) characters, and the actress. Jack Duckworth's funeral was up there too, as was Hayley's.
The worst was the recently-departed Deidre Barlow's - who the hell thought that one up? Deidre was one of Corrie's most iconic characters ever (as in, Top 5 imo) and yet you have Ken, whose eulogy to the love of his life for nigh on 35 years wasn't in any way emotional, personal or touching and who thought it was much more important to rip his daughter to shreds (if Deidre were alive and witnessing that, she'd be horrified that Ken was having a go at Tracey at a funeral!), the Rovers door blowing open (what even?), Peter missing like 3 trains and therefore unable to get to the funeral when he could've come down the night or two nights before, Bev coming down and telling them that Deidre had died when surely a member of the hospital Deidre was taken to after she had died would get in touch first? - and that's not to mention the death and funeral episodes arguably overshadowed by the beyond irritating Sarah, Callum and Bethany.
The Deidre funeral was a COMPLETE insult to both the character and Anne Kirkbride, I think. The only saving grace of those episodes was Eileen Derbyshire (underrated actress). Emily's reaction to Deidre's death was heartbreaking.

Frank's fake funeral in Spain was also excellent. The look on Peggy's face when she saw him alive was priceless, just before she started hitting him with the bouquet of flowers in her hand

I remember when Jim Robinson died in Neighbours.
An example of a terrible tribute to a classic character as the funeral wasn't shown at all but perhaps one of the most natural ways to get around the fact that not all of the actors playing his children returned (I believe Kylie said she and Jason were never invited back/approached for Jim, Helen or Madge's funerals).
They did a scene where the Family came back to Julie's house after the funeral that opened with them waving off Scott and Charlene from the front door (we were in the house) and then Julie and Paul saying it was a pity baby Daniel was sick and they had to leave so soon.
Of course this only works if you don't show the funeral at all, but it can be affective.
