Today saw the start of the 10th season of the Premier League prediction competition. We welcomed 7 new players (Mark F, DartGuru, topgooner100, JB92, Scratchy., All Of Me and clm2071) taking part for the first time (becoming the 317th to 323rd players to take part). 4 other players return after missing at least one season: jlp95bwfc, Halojoe, Super Dog Man and dosanjh1. There are 3 players (cheeks, Terrence Chant and yakutz) who have made predictions in all 10 seasons to date.

68 players predicted today - this compares well with the number of players taking part in the first week of previous seasons:
2006-07 23
2007-08 50
2008-09 70
2009-10 69
2010-11 78
2011-12 63
2012-13 89
2013-14 84
2014-15 71

In the early kick-off All Of Me, dyer24, Partyanimal and TruffleShuffle each went for Man United to beat Spurs 1-0. 52 others also went for a home win and scored 2 points.

From the four 3pm matches:
Only Hayden went for Aston Villa to win 1-0 at Bournemouth. eugenespeed, MinkyJoe, Thebenster, topgooner100 and Xavier Quebeck were the only other players who tipped Villa to win.

All Of Me, Apple_Crumble, Croctacus and yakutz gaied the first uber-max of the season courtesy of the 2-2 draw between Everton and Watford. eugenespeed, Super Dog Man and U.R.Correct were the only other who went for a draw here.

No-one went for Leicester to beat Sunderland 4-2, but 30 players did go for a home win to score 2 points each.

dazc, DimSum, HaloJoe, Scratchy., Super Dog Man and topgooner100 also gained uber-maxes courtesy of the first cowpat of the season. They had gone for Crystal Palace to win 3-1 at Norwich, where the final Palace goal was scored in injury time meaning these players gained a +5 cowpat as well as the uber. anap, beth84, charlieparr, cheeks, Cissy Fairfax, dbal, fatsi, Fish Go Deep, JB92, jlp95bwfc, neilwatson, Terrence Chant, tonypennys, TruffleShuffle, U.R.Correct and WoodsMonk had all gone for a 2-1 Palace win and so suffered a -3 cowpat each. In total 29 players scored 2 points from this match.

In the evening match only 2 players (anap and EPY) went for Swansea to get a draw at Chelsea. Neither player got the 2-2 draw spot on, so both got 2 points each from this match.

From the 6 matches played today the top scores were:

Super Dog Man 13
All Of Me 12
DimSum 11
yakutz 11
Apple_Crumble 09
Croctacus 09
dazc 09
HaloJoe 09
Partyanimal 09
Scratchy. 09
topgooner100 09
anap 08
dyer24 07
Hayden 07
TruffleShuffle 07

All Of Me had a great debut as the only player to get 2 predictions spot on (gaining one normal max and one uber-max)

anap and Super Dog Man gained points from the most matches - scoring in 4 of the 6

Only one player from the 68 taking part has failed to get any points today.

There are two matches getting underway at 1:30 pm today:

Arsenal v West Ham United
This is the first match this season where we have all gone for the same outcome – all 68 of us have gone for an Arsenal win. The 3-0 win is the most popular prediction as 24 players have gone for that. A further 15 have gone for 2-0, whilst both the 1-0 and 2-1 wins have been selected twice each. We have 25 uber-max predictions for this match: 8 have tipped Arsenal to win 3-1, 7 have gone for 4-0 and 6 for 4-1. There are also three players going for a 5-0 win, whilst one player has gone for a 6-1 home win.

Newcastle United v Southampton
There are 12 players going for a home win, 28 going for a draw and 28 players have gone for an away win. The 1-1 draw is the most popular prediction here with 21 of us going for that. There are also two players going for it to finish goalless. 12 players have backed Southampton to win 2-1, 7 have gone for 1-0, three for 2-0 and one player has gone for a 3-0 away win. 9 players have gone for Newcastle to win 2-1 and three have gone for 1-0. Half of the 10 uber-max predictions are for a 2-2 draw, whilst three players have gone for a 3-1 Saints win and two have gone for them to win 3-2.

The leading scorers this weekend are now:

Super Dog Man 13
All Of Me 12
Benny Johns 11
Croctacus 11
dazc 11

Partyanimal 09
Scratchy. 09
taurus_67 09
topgooner100 09

All Of Me remains the only player with 2 exacts so far (1 normal max and 1 uber-max)

For today’s final match:

Stoke City v Liverpool
16 players have gone for a Stoke win, 23 have gone for a draw and 29 players have backed Liverpool to win. The most popular prediction for this match is the 1-1 draw as 16 players have gone for that. There are 13 players going for a 2-1 Liverpool win, five going for a 1-0 win, four for 2-0 and one player has gone for them to win 3-0. We have 10 players going for a 2-1 Stoke win and three going for them to win 1-0. 7 of the 16 uber-max predictions here are for a 2-2 draw. There are also four players going for a 3-1 Liverpool win and two going for Stoke to win 3-1, whilst both the 5-1 Liverpool win and 6-1 Stoke win have both been selected once each.

This match is first in the history of this competition where both teams have at least one prediction for them to win and score at least 5 goals in the process.
