We have not seen enough of Claudette yet to judge the Hubbards and apparently Vincent is a villain!! There is still some deadwood left and if I was DTC I would axe the following -

Billy
Roxy
Fatboy
Les

I would have also said Tamwar, Lee and Whitney but they have improved of late.
Fatboy is good as a background character, so I don't think that he needs to be axed.

I'd rather see the back of

Sonia
Abi
Pam
Paul
Dean

I think we will see some new additions in the autumn.

Lindsey's leaving on her own accord, but I actually feel that with Liam, Lola and Charlie they are trimming the fat to bring in new additions.

Most likely it will be Kush brother and his wife, I can see Carmel moving to th square soon. Bonnie seems to be well liked with the cast and crew so I can see them bringing her in full time.

Then we can expect another Hubbard or two.

I reckon Gavin will only be around for a short while before turning up again later in the year. He may bring in some family/acquaintances of his own.

When DTC took over, I posted that EE had one of the strongest casts it had ever had. I'm not sure the same is true any more.

Bonnie has been great as Carmel and I would like to see her as a regular.

We haven't got to know Vincent, NuMartin, Kush, Paul, Rebecca, Claudette and Carmel yet...more new characters would be hard to accept IMO.

We have got a strong cast now. We have plenty of old-timers but we have some good newcomers. It's block story telling which is problematic. I think Gavin is going to be a prominent newcomer when he arrives. We have the Cokers' big storyline next week.

The cast is nowhere near as strong as DTC's early days. We've lost too many old timers...the Butchers, the Moons, Carol, David etc. Now he's sacked three perfectly good characters.

Who are 3 good characters? I'm presuming you mean Lola and Charlie? I think they had to leave because Kathy and Gavin are on their way to Walford soon and I think Gillian Taylforth and Paul Nicholas' salaries are quite high so a few clearouts was needed?

We have the Mitchells and Beales as long-term families but the Carters have proved to be a big hit in general. Mick and Linda are "breakout" characters and there's a lot of love for them. Shirley is quite popular (maybe not now but she'll be redeemed) and the producers are very lucky to have Linda Henry in their cast because she's bloody marvellous at acting. I know I am always harsh on Shirley and do tend to go OTT on her actions but I do acknowledge that Shirley is one of the greatest characters introduced in the 00s era.

We have the Slaters - ok we have Stacey now but Kat and Alfie are coming back next year. I think we'll be introduced to Kat's son eventually and hopefully he will be played by a good actor.

Kathy and Gavin will be great additions to the show because they will provide drama for the Beales/Mitchells.

We have the Foxes but they need more screentime especially Denise.

The Masoods are still here which is a good thing and they have a massive storyline coming up in August and that will continue for a few more months. Nitin Ganatra and Rakhee Thakrar deserve to have heavier material.

DTC is trying to balance the show - long-term characters and newer characters from his era have worked really well. I don't like Pam and Les and I think they're utterly useless but we do have a stable older couple (I don't believe Les is cheating on Pam).

We don't know if Danielle Harold was axed. Maybe she quit or it was a story-led decision. Charlie's exit means bad news for Dot but she still has Fatoby.

All in all, I think we're ok. But yeah last year, the cast was astonishing.

Yes, Charlie and Lola, but also Aleks. Lucy and Liam were also axed.

As for wages, you'd think that Stan, Yvonne's, Carol's and Max's would have covered Kathy and Gavin's wages without having to axe decent characters.

I'll see how it goes, but with the exodus of so many of my favourite characters I'm not optimistic. I'd have rather the likes of Sonia and Tina had been shown the door.

I said this in another thread, there are too many new characters and not enough familiar faces imo.

Kathy, Sonia, Dean, Ronnie, Stacey and Jane have all returned in the last two years. We have also had the returns of Shabnam, Martin, Rebecca and Ben albeit with new heads.

There was a lot of deadwood in the show so it was inevitable that we would have a huge change in the cast.

I think losing Aleks and Charlie so soon is a mistake though.

Sonia and Dean have not been an asset to the show, in fact quite the opposite. Dean has single handedly dragged the Carters down. I can't help suspecting that he was kept on beyond his original contract just because he's hot and Matt has a fan base. Stacey has had sod all to do since her return, and Jane has turned into a pscho bitch...my least liked character.

I don't think Lola and Lucy were deadwood, and nor were Aleks and Charlie. Liam maybe, but he's no worse than Rebecca.

I don't think the mistake was asking them; I think the stupid Roxy/Charlie affair was the mistake. It ruined Charlie and Roxy and rendered Aleks surplus to requirements. I'm happy Charlie's been axed now, though I once thought he was one of the best new characters. I never liked Aleks, though.

BiB: Agreed. The Shabnam story, potentially fascinating, has been tainted by his involvement in it. I think he's basically an okay character who has outstayed his natural time on the show. I really hope he's gone by the end of the year, it's getting to be a bit of a joke now.

I think some of the recent axings have been misjudged, Lola in particular. I can't understand why good characters with lots to offer are being written out and we still have deadwood like Ronnie, Roxy and Deano hanging around. Dean is finished as a character after the rape, but he's still around acting like nothing's happened. Are we supposed to just forget?

Ronnie and Roxy are also past it.

I haven't been massively impressed with the recent additions. The Cokers bore me to tears, and the Hubbards have failed to excite. Donna just isn't likeable, and Vincent is laughably unconvincing as the Square's new 'hardman'. The actress who plays Claudette is woeful, and the producers should know this as she was just as bad when she played another character a few years ago. I hope we get some new characters in the autumn, and not just extensions of families that already exist.

I think the problem is dtc favouritism and stubbornness . we have lost Lucy and are going to Lola because of this. dtc has said in the past that he wishes pat was still alive and of course he blames Birkwood for this well I guess we all do. but this is no reason to get rid of under characters brought in under Birkwood. Hetti bywater was brought in under Birkwood and then under dtc she was axed and her character killed of. Lucy was too good a character to lose just because of some grudge dtc has and imo hetti was a very good actress. Now we are losing Lola who was brought in under Birkwood. Lola has an importance in eastenders. She is the mother of Ben Mitchell's son. I guess we will be losing Lexi as well when Lola leaves. Lexi is Phil Mitchell and Kathy Beale granddaughter, Her uncle is Ian Beale can Lola and lexi have better family connections in eastenders at the moment. we also barely ever see Cora any more as of course she was brought in under Birkwood. I wouldn't be surprised if jac jossa wasn't brought back as Lauren because it was Birkwood who brought in jac jossa. Now onto his favouritism. Recently it was announced that Declan Bennett has been axed as Charlie. Over the past few months we had Charlie and Roxy ''poor me'' Mitchell all over our screens. We were made believe they were in deep love but now there's nothing. we are losing Charlie but of course dtc wouldn't lose his precious creations Ronnie and Roxy. imo it should be Roxy that was axed not Lola. Lola is much more important to the current Mitchell family with Kathy returning and also her relationship with jay. I hope that when dtc leaves Roxy is axed and clearly she is going nowhere with dtc still there.
Would you like some cheese with that whine?

What a load of old clap-trap.

It's very low at the moment, but I suspect that there will be a load of Claudette's foster kids being introduced when she moves to the square, I think they will make Carmel full time and will bring Kush's brother with her, and Gavin arrives shortly. I suspect the gangster count to rise significantly with Vincent and Gavin described as villains. I also expect Dean's exit to be staged before Christmas.
