Who are 3 good characters? I'm presuming you mean Lola and Charlie? I think they had to leave because Kathy and Gavin are on their way to Walford soon and I think Gillian Taylforth and Paul Nicholas' salaries are quite high so a few clearouts was needed?
We have the Mitchells and Beales as long-term families but the Carters have proved to be a big hit in general. Mick and Linda are "breakout" characters and there's a lot of love for them. Shirley is quite popular (maybe not now but she'll be redeemed) and the producers are very lucky to have Linda Henry in their cast because she's bloody marvellous at acting. I know I am always harsh on Shirley and do tend to go OTT on her actions but I do acknowledge that Shirley is one of the greatest characters introduced in the 00s era.
We have the Slaters - ok we have Stacey now but Kat and Alfie are coming back next year. I think we'll be introduced to Kat's son eventually and hopefully he will be played by a good actor.
Kathy and Gavin will be great additions to the show because they will provide drama for the Beales/Mitchells.
We have the Foxes but they need more screentime especially Denise.
The Masoods are still here which is a good thing and they have a massive storyline coming up in August and that will continue for a few more months. Nitin Ganatra and Rakhee Thakrar deserve to have heavier material.
DTC is trying to balance the show - long-term characters and newer characters from his era have worked really well. I don't like Pam and Les and I think they're utterly useless but we do have a stable older couple (I don't believe Les is cheating on Pam).
We don't know if Danielle Harold was axed. Maybe she quit or it was a story-led decision. Charlie's exit means bad news for Dot but she still has Fatoby.
All in all, I think we're ok. But yeah last year, the cast was astonishing.
