It was! Would have been even better if she broke the tension by singing Elastic Heart.

He's been dull for ages but he needs a big story to rejuvenate him. I loved him standing up to Phil - about goddamn time

The Bloodbath will do it.

I'm loving the convoluted twisty divided loyalties. Previously I thought it was quite a boring generic plot with a daft pay off. But I love the direction it's gone in recently.

I never understood why he saw Phil as a father figure in the first place to be honest.

I'm kind of warming to the horrible dysfunction of the Mitchells. Makes my family look normal!

I have not seen tonight's episode yet.

But I agree - the Philth actually stole Jay off Billy when he was feeling lonely.

Jay has always has strong morals so why would he get involved with a scumbag like that?

The way Mitchell swanned around the square after Heather's death whilst poor Jay got all the abuse made me want to puke.

Of all the Mitchell's Bill and Jay are the most 'normal' and Perry and Jamie are both excellent when given something to do.

Guess that reaction will depend on how much daddy Gav's got in his wallet!

Totally agree. In fact I think this is definitely the most gripping, most far-reaching story arc the show has had since Den's death! I'm not DTC's biggest fan but gotta hand it to him for making so many old-timers so relevant again.

What I would like to know - is Kathy aware that her Grand Daughter is dead?

I didn't see the post Ev stuff but that sounds cold and pretty typical I guess.

I'd agree with you on that. I've only enjoyed 50% of his work but he's played a blinder here. This is his best storyline for me. I hope we get something as outrageous as Den being dug up by a deranged Sam Mitchell on his daughter's wedding day.

After Heather's death Jay was the scapegoat who received all the abuse because the writers would have us believe that everyone in Walford was far too terrified of the Philth to say anything to him.

If I was Jay I would never have forgiven Mitchell for how he abandoned him in those dark days.

But we all know the scumbag treats everyone like dirt and always comes up smelling of roses.

So much more interesting than linear affairs etc.”

I suppose you could argue that Ben is Ian's half-brother and she doesn't believe him capable of killing Lucy.

I just wish the writing for her was more consistent. I liked her when she had that chat with Abi about Den but she was a cow to Carol tonight. I thought she was going to be the sceptical one in this Max storyline after her experience with Sam/Chrissie.

I like it when the writers incorporate a character's past into how they behave in the present - two recent examples of this are Carol taking Cindy in and being sympathetic towards Shirley's situation re: Dean. The former a reminder of the time she took Joe Wicks in after David Wicks' first departure and the latter of the time Robbie was falsely accused of raping Sarah Hills. Unfortunately the writing is rarely that deep for Sharon anymore.

I want the writing to be more consistent for her and I want her to take a proper stand against the Mitchells, not just issue these empty threats.

You won't get any argument from me 're the writing for Sharon. I tuned back into EE when she returned and was horrified by the writing that trashed my favourite ever soap character. I lasted til New Years Day 2013 when she contemplated marriage proposals from Jack and Phil without once mentioning the anniversary of her husband's murder.

I came back again when I saw on here about DTC's tweet about bringing her back 'old style' It never happened. But I have enjoyed watching her despite some utter characterization clangers which I've bored on about ever since I joined here which have further damaged her. She isn't the Sharon Watts of old but she still has something about her.

But I really don't see the Being a Cow to Carol thing. I see it as someone lashing out because she believes a young woman's father pressurised her to keep his murder of another young woman quiet. Fair enough ifyou think she's a cow. You'll see it through those eyes. And I of course will see it the other way.

I hope Lauren slaps Abi when she returns. I hate Abi now and cannot believe Sharon and Phil are pulling strings. Abi needs to wake up and smell the coffee and realise here boyfriend is a screaming queen

Good on Carol and co Standing up for Max, it is not nice being rock bottom. I hope the IPCC are called in and investigate the handling of the case. I cannot believe Ian and Jane

Was that Lola's exit last Friday? If so then that was low key
