Hall & Oates
Still going strong, but starting to show their age, playing at a concert this month, my favourite song from their "Abandoned Lunchonette," album, that "took nearly 30 years to sell a million copies."

Showing their age?? IIRC Daryl Hall is now 68!
Brings back memories of their Sheffield City Hall gig in the mid 70s which still ranks as of my favourite ever gigs. Their guitarist at the time (Todd somebody or other but, err no, not Rundgren lol) was incredible. If you are a fan of Hall & Oates you need to have a look at Hall's 'Live From Daryl's House' videos on youtube - lots of great performances with special guests (Sara Smile with Rumer is fantastic!)... PS Abandoned Luncheonette is probably my favourite H&O album. |

I first heard Hall & Oates on their initial visit to the UK, on "Whistle Test." They played Camellia from their "Silver Album."
I always though it a bit sad about "Sara" who was Sara Allen a songwriter, who was with Daryl Hall for thirty years before they broke up. Abandoned Luncheonette is a great album. I particularly like the "middle eight" in "When the Morning Comes." Chris Bond was a guitarist on that album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okLj...=RDokLj1nfGG0s Digressing, as you've mentioned him, I've Todd Rundgren's "Something/Anything" double album, which has "I saw the Light" on it, my favourite track of his. A very talented musician. The sound of the motorcycle on Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" he produced on his guitar. |

Let's be realistic, much as I like them (and I wouldn't have started the thread if I didn't) their vocal range is a bit shot, when you compare the video I linked, to the original studio recording.

They're okay, I saw them live at Birmingham symphony hall last year. My boyfriend is a big fan.Darryl Hall (I think he's the one who does most of the singing) still has a great voice.
My favourites are one on one, kiss on my list and you make my dreams. |

I also like Sara Smile.
and "Love Hurts, Live Heals," from "Beauty on a Back Street." "She's Gone" has been a hit how many times, is it three? As she was mentioned as recording one of their songs, Rumer also recorded one of my favourite David Gates songs. "Goodbye Girl," I think she's underrated. |

Of course I've been forgetting another classic, which I've mentioned elsewhere before. This was probably not as popular as the Paul Young recording, but it was written by Daryl Hall.
Hall & Oates' version was used in the close-out scene and over the end titles of the film "The Rebound," starring the delightful Catherine Zeta-Jones. Someone made a montage of the "best bits" of the film and used the track to accompany them and uploaded it to YouTube.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUZpaw7joIA |

I was really surprised to discover that only 3 of their songs reached the UK top 20. A lot of those great songs we know and love didn't even trouble the top 40!
Out Of Touch, Rich Girl, She's Gone to name but three which never made a dent. |

Daryl Hall worked with Robert Fripp in late 70's, on his Exposure album and also on a Hall solo album called Sacred Songs.
Odd but enjoyable. |
