Sarah lou is an a terrible mother.
Is it just me or does anyone else think that Sarah Lou is an awful role model, she allowed her fourteen year old daughter to travel home from Milan alone, alright she didn't know she had run away but she should have, when she arrived to take her home she had no authority over her and just screamed at her like a fishwife. She laughs at all her bad behaviour, and actually encourages her to be rude to Gail and David. She doesn't seem to mind her drinking, or wearing inappropriate clothes and makeup for her age. And last but not least she allows her to hang out with Callum her drug dealing boy friend.

That is the problem for me & why people on here are so against these two! It's not so much that Lucy Fallon/ Bethany isn't like a 15 year old (I think she's doing a great job as I've stated in another thread), it's more that Sarah is acting like her younger sister, looking up to her almost! The problem is definitely with Sarah not Bethany for me! |

She was always dreadful where Bethany was concerned, only interested in her when she had a man around to play house or plan a wedding with. The rest of the time she palming her off on whoevered have her while she bogged off and did stupid things.
No wonder Bethany is what she is. |

She's definitely a shockingly poor mother, totally irresponsible and clueless. Doesn't even know where her daughter is most of the time.

She is completely & utterly inept as a mother!! Thre's no wonder Bethany is like she is!! Not only has there obviously been zero discipline, she does really seem to find it funny her young daughter verbally abusing her elders, getting drunk, bunking off & lying about it!! It's almost like she wishes she could be more like her!!

I think that's the point, Sarah Louise is only 28, she had Bethany at 12/13 and has struggled trying to raise her, along side her own desire for freedom, she treated Bethany more like a sister then a daughter and that is where the issues have occurred as Bethany now at a age where she will do as she wants instead of do as she told.

I find it very hard to believe that Sarah was supposed to have been raising Bethany single-handed in Italy for all these years. She hasn't got the slightest idea how to raise a child, and relies on Gail to look after her now. And mega cringe when Bethany used that Italian phrase. Why on earth has she got a broad Manc accent anyway, when she was raised in Milan?

I was pleased when I read that Sarah and Bethany were to be re-introduced into Coronation Street, a nice addition to the Platt family. But I am at a loss to understand why the director/producer? chose to make them into such nasty characters, who are unwatchable. We already have Tracy Barlow playing a nasty person very skillfully. I hope Sarah and Bethany are on a short contract.

I can't stand her smug looks. Callum disrespects her mother and she doesn't even care.

The destruction of Sarah as a character has been one of the biggest disasters of the past year or two.
As others have discussed, if the production team wanted to take Sarah down the route of being on the bones of her arse, without a job or any prospects, they could have easily done that. She could have returned to Weatherfield with her tail between her legs because her career had failed in some way. Instead we're meant to believe that she has gone from pulling strings in the Italian fashion industry to pulling pints in the Rovers. The whole thing is just disastrous. From the moment I saw her stumble into No.8 with a suitcase I knew things would be bad. My biggest question is what does Sarah actually do? She just totters around the Street in her heels like a prototype Liz McDonald and barely says a word. The scripting since her return has been atrocious. Watch any scene featuring Sarah and she rarely says a thing. Add to that the seemingly utter contempt for her family, her deluded approach to parenting and general lack of any kind of common sense and you've got a character that I simply can't stand. They may as well have got a couple of pieces of wood, a loose handful of nails, some stuffing and a 'Milan'-style outfit and fashioned a scarecrow to play Sarah. I don't necessarily blame Tina O'Brien for this, it's certainly down to the writing and the development of the character (or lack of). Her relationship with David should be full of tension but I find myself not caring in the slightest. Jack P Shepherd is marvellous, showing David as a complex, interesting character but sadly when he's pitted against the current incarnation of Tina O'Brien's Sarah, all of his efforts seem pointless. I'd tell Sarah to sod off and not come back. I just don't care about her. Gail's transformation into simpering whimp doesn't help matters either. Why hasn't Gail given her a good shouting at? She always used to. The Platts should be Corrie's premier family, particularly at the moment. On paper they are perfect - two of the show's longest serving actresses as matriarchs and three well-established adult children along with Paula Lane's Kylie. A few younger children dotted around to add to the mix. Surely this is a perfect soap family? Gail needs to move out of No.8 and let David and Kylie have that as a family home. Gail was in a similar position when she lived with Ivy so it surprises me that Gail would do the same to David. |

To be honest I think Sarahs character jumped the shark big time with the Todd coming out and the baby dying storyline
Her character lost all direction after that. Having her return from Italy should've been her own story not shoe horned into the David/Callum stuff. But her character was a shambles before she left and there's been no improvement or growth with her at all. Theres so much more they could've gone with her, she could have her own business, be selling franchises, be a drug dealer, an escort, had to flee coz Bethany was accused of cyber bullying, arrived with her boyfriend/ secret husband and a step child, arrived with a friend and have an absolutely fabulous style set up where Bethany tries to be the parent to the two washed up wannabe fashionistas. Loads of opportunities |

The poor woman was screwed out of ownership of her home already, (admittedly largely due to her own stupidity, but still).

The problem with Sarah is that she acts like a teenager, and l don't mean a mature nineteen year old, l mean an immature thirteen year old. Throwing tantrums, flaunting her drug dealing boyfriend in front of any one who's interested, as if he's some brilliant catch, arguing with everyone and sulking if she doesn't get her own way. I mean come on she's almost thirty years old. And another thing her voice is so whiny, even when she tries to tell Bethany off there is no note of authority in her voice, l find it hard to take her seriously. Just wish she would grow up a bit.

It's not just her parenting, she's also a terrible human being. Her and her smug daughter just stood by grinning when Callum had a go at Gail last night even bringing Nick brain damage into it (and Sarah only got annoyed when he had a go at her, but having a go at Nick and David seems acceptable). If Gail was herself and not the joke of a character the last 2 EP's have turned her into then this conversation would have ended with something like this:
Gail: "Is this really your future Sarah? Him? (she turns to see Bethany grinning) And what are you smirking for? (turns back to Sarah Lou) If this is your life now; If you really want him then you can have him, but don't come round to my house anymore. Don't come asking me for favours because I am done with you whilst you let that low life ruin your life." Ok maybe she isn't the type of mother to do tough love and it's not her house and the dialogue isn't great but it's a damn-sight better than most of the corrie scripts under SB unfortunately. |

Sarah smirking like a naughty schoolgirl while Callum made nasty remarks about her whole family was disgusting. Doesn't she care about any of them? The family who are housing her and helping her with Bethany because she got herself sacked for being useless, even though she's carrying on with a drug dealer/David's rival for Max?

Sarah lou is the terrible mother
I would like to see martin Platt return, maybe he could sort out Sarah and Bethany, l mean he is her dad after all. It is very strange that he is never mentioned in any context, surely he would be especially by Sarah and David. I don't think that the original actor would return but they could always bring him back with a new head, like they did with nick or Tracy Barlow. To be honest the Platt family need someone to sort them out they are falling apart and becoming a laughing stock.

It would be weird for Martin to return now though having been absent for so long, maybe he's divorcing the turd he married and it turns out she was a big freak who was jealous and controlling and didn't want him having anything to do with his ex etc.
The problem with the Platts is they've all been through so much they're a parody. How could anyone go through everything Gails been through and still be the same person! |
