What other set-top-boxes did they launch recently on Wakey? i.e. boxes that directly compete with the Amazon Fire TV? (Those in the same price range). Android smart phones are a different market.
The theory that Amazon Prime are not on Roku because Sky has shares is only a theory. Neither Sky nor Amazon have stated this at all, and it would have been in Amazon's interest to bring this to light.
If it is the case, Sky must really have a huge amount of global power, as Amazon Prime also did not launch on the Nexus Player (Android TV) in the UK, US or Germany. Is this Sky at work as well?
What about Chromecast? Are Sky somehow affecting global apps for Chromecast in every country as well?
It's fine that you want to share your theory with us here, but it would be a little more accurate if you stated that what you say is simply a theory and not fact.
What we do know is this: Around the time that Amazon leaked that they were working on an in-house set-top-box, Amazon stopped releasing apps on any other competing devices. Amazon launched their set-top-box and as the service is not available on many other devices, their box has become one of the fastest selling STBs on the market.
Once this reaches a certain threshold, they will likely begin rolling out the apps onto other devices so they can increase market penetration, but until then they will use this "exclusivity" as a reason to sell their own STB.
Amazon is
much bigger than Sky and
much more powerful. If Amazon wanted to be on Roku in the UK, and if your theory was true that Sky was holding this back, Amazon would use its muscle to get on Roku. Sky don't own Roku outright and shareholders would not want a war with Amazon.
The reason Amazon isn't on Roku is most likely their choice.
