Nothing to do with Amazon is ever worth it. Any right minded and decent person in the UK should be sticking two fingers up to this lot at all times.

It may seem silly to a lot of people in the UK who are used to free television (or for the most part).

In the US, people generally pay for free-to-air TV

If you look at the main FTA (free-to-air) Networks (they call them OTA there, as although they are "free", they're not), ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX, you really need a cable sub to get the most out of them, or get them at all since terrestrial signals can be bad outside of main urban areas.

Try going to many of their catch-up services and you will often see a "cable login required" note when trying to watch last night's episode.

So for Americans it is the opposite. These SVOD services are a breath of fresh air and has started a new craze in America called "Cord Cutting", where they cut free from cable. Even though people have to bundle up to get everything they need (i.e. Netflix, Prime, HBO Now, Hulu etc), it is still cheaper than cable.

So it probably won't change in a hurry, especially as American TV isn't really that big in the UK (despite what we all think). From memory, not one American show made it into the top 10 for 2014 UK TV ratings, so American TV is still a niche market in the UK. A big niche market, but not the big rating pullers that we would expect.

What I want is to be able of opting out of receiving BBC television and not paying the license fee.

(a) if you don't want to subscribe or use Amazon's services then don't.

(b) and if you don't, why are you reading this thread?
