Personally, chrissie has grown on me and i think she will very quickly become one of my favourites! Especially if they put her with ross!

Bernice is growing on me (I never thought I'd say that) and I liked her with Lawrence earlier in the week.

I hated Chrissie earlier in the year with the Alicia/Lachlan stuff. She is one of the best characters in the show right now though, saved by her actions when she discovered the truth about her son.

I wouldn't say any characters are really growing on me at the moment, the ones I like I still like and the ones I don't I still don't.

Megan has got better since her complete "absence" since Robbie's death, she seems back to her old self again with this Jai and Rachel stuff and I'm glad to see her back.

It's weird with Emmerdale because I don't really tend to have favourite characters. Unlike EE I really care about them.

Yes, I also feel the same about Chrissie now and Megan now. What I don't like is how, with a few pen strokes by the writers, we are constantly manipulated into changing our opinions on characters to suit whatever sl they have dreamed up for this week.

There's a few I have as favourites, but right now I am indifferent to most of them.

Great minds.

At least with Chrissie, the change seems to be a natural development of her character rather than seemingly coming out of nowhere.
Megan's I accept because this is how she was. Thank goodness she is back! I couldn't stand how weak she became after Robbie's death.

But I hate personality transplants as much as the next person!

I completely agree with both of you.

I especially agree with the changing opinions point... as soon as I start to like a character, they inevitably become more irritating or downright nasty. It's getting harder and harder to explain away because there's often no reasoning behind it.

One thing these writer's are great at doing is changing your opinions of a character - look what they did for Alicia (at the beginning though I loved her even then) Kerry, and now what they are doing to Ross.

They're trying their hardest to make Tracy likable but I am not buying it, not for a second.

Hopefully they manage to work their magic on Carly because she needs fixing.

Kerry has grown on me, but that happened a while ago. Mostly I don't change my opinion of characters very often. I tend to dislike most characters.

Tracey, when she first came in and was using Sam I really didn't like her, but she has really grown on me since Val put her out and she started working for Jimmy.

I agree

I do care more about EE characters more than ED

They always make characters unlikeable before they kill them off.

What like Tricia? Or Gennie? Or John Barton? Or Donna, or Mia, or Butch or countless others?

Conversely the likes of Jai, Kerry, Val, Tracy, Carly, Charity, Lisa etc etc either were or still are very unlikeable and are all still there for now.

Your argument really doesn't stack up.

That is really true and something unique to British soaps, they love to make you hate the character then kill them off in some gruesome final way...which is very different from the US soaps that rarely kill off characters in a way so they can't be brought back, rarely do gruesome deaths and when they have they usually get quite the backlash.

I respectfully disagree, great pains were taken to make Robbie a more likable character the year prior to his death.

In my experience the opposite is true, a character is usually made more likable prior to their death to make you care more.

Tracey has grown on me, like mould on stale cheese. She really is the worst 'actress' ever to be brought in to Emmardale.

Chrissie is certainly fitting in more. Still terrible acting and the character is a bit too changeable but she's grown on me. Of the Bartons, I've always liked Finn and it was good to see him back with Victoria this week because he's in danger of becoming a spare part when Val goes ( if he survives next week ) and I'm starting to get Ross but not the sex symbol bit. The oldest brother who's getting married is so dull I can't even be bothered to remember his name ( he can go next week ) and as for Charlie Stubbs, he must be the worst actor in any of the major soaps. Otherwise I think I've always liked or liked to dislike the other characters depending on their part.

Me too. Megan, Robbie and Kerryman are the only ones I can think of who I've changed my mind about.

Leyla. When they first brought her back, I couldn't warm to her at all, and couldn't really see the point of her. But she was amazing in the Alicia/Lachlan stuff, and she fits really well into female friendships with Vanessa and Carly. Now I really like her.

Shame she's being chucked away on the execrable Jai at the moment, but you can't have everything.

Agree with the main points about total character rewrites though, they never work with me - Tracy being a case in point. I still dislike her.
