Help!
Hey everyone. As the title states I desperately need help with an issue I'm having. I recently bought a new Sony Bravia (KDL55W8) LED, 1080P, 3D Smart tv of John Lewis. The problem I'm having with it is it won't pick up my Sky plus HD through the HDMI channels. The only way I can view my tv at the moment is through the AV (Scart cable). I've tried new HDMI cables to make sure. Please help

First off. Have you used the Sky box via HDMI previously? If so then chances are it is working but if you have never used HDMI there is a chance it's broken.
Secondly, do you have anything else with HDMI to test with, eg a DVD, Blu-Ray or even a Freeview PVR? That will help narrow down where the problem lies. If nothing works on any HDMI port then that could mean the TV is cream crackered. But if everything bar the Sky box works then it is likely to be the Sky box. |

Check Scart control is set to off on the Sky box.
To do this go to, Services - Settings - Picture - Scart Control..... Alternatively, remove the scart lead. |

Thanks for your replies guys. No, I've got nothing else to test with at the moment. I've tried setting scart control to off to no avail. The strange thing is, I think the tv is picking up something on the HDMI as the screen turns really light blue and says 1080i. This is so frustrating!

Have you followed the advice here, about checking if the latest firmware is installed.

As others have said, ensure it's updated to the latest software - be aware it's a VERY long procedure doing this, usually taking between an hour and an hour and a half. The download itself takes a long time, then the actual update usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes.
We have seen a few 'strange' HDMI occurrences on the Android Sony's, where only one socket works whichever input you select. In such a case, (apart from the obvious obligatory updating) do a factory reset and set up from scratch again. |
