Phil doesn't seem too bothered that his granddaughter has gone.

In no word of a lie I genuinely think Lola's exit is possibly the worst exit ever in Eastenders history in terms of how utterly implausible and completely pathetic it was. The writing was on the wall for Lola and honestly in the long term I'll forget that she was in Walford but for her to go to run away with Jay, to leaving to Newcastle to presumably never see him again when he got off with just a suspended sentence is incredibly unrealistic. It might have made sense if she'd left not wanting to see Billy again after what he did but it didn't work like that at all and it's incredibly disappointing to me. I guess the lure of living with Dexter, somebody who was just a friend she got on with in comparison to being with her boyfriend and family was just too much.

It was poor but I think Zainab's was just as bad!

Phil just sees Lola as a distant relative, who in a chavy way got up the duff by his gay son.

Because outside of the square is a desolate wilderness apart from four places - "up West" where they shop but don't bring bags back, Milton Keynes which is so cheap a taxi driver and gobshite can afford a four bed with a loft conversion, Maaaaanchester and Noocarstle (where Michelle went to college many years ago). Nowhere else exists although Birmingham is somewhere recently added to list of "other places". Lola is better off up there - cheaper housing, nicer people, fabulous city, brilliant support for the local football team, decent shopping, fab nightlife and places to visit that are stunning. Weird exit though.

Agreed. Both exits were rushed and badly written and made no sense in the contexts of their respective character's storylines.

Why would Jack leave Ronnie and all his family like that?

And why would Lola leave a job and people who love her, including Jay, who she professed to love so much, to go to Newcastle?

None of it made sense.

They would still have to persuade Lola to return from Newcastle.

they have brought Kathy back from the dead I'm sure they can manage to have Lola change her mind and return, why are you talking like she's a real character

It's the most implausible story line of the year so far. Why couldn't they think of something more realistic? It would have been better if she had found a great job opportunity somewhere but instead she has randomly disappeared when her boyfriend can't go anywhere. Ridiculous.

tbf as things stand Jay is planning on joining her, the reason he doesn't go will be a key detail

This storyline is totally inexplicable. Jay told Ben that Lola wouldn't return because of Billy, yet they had an emotional farewell outside the tube when all was forgiven . Phil couldn't care less that his only granddaughter, Lexi, has gone up north, yet remember the kerfuffle when Phil was trying to gain custody of her.

As others have said, was so much more to explore; the conflict between Ben and his risen again mother with her grandchild being the child Ben doesn't want or care for, something that's never before been covered in a soap as far as I know.

There's more to her sacking than meets the eye.

I don't understand why she is anymore likely to "make summink of 'erself" in Newcastle than in London. Are hairdressers more sought after in Newcastle and better paid or something?

Wouldn't it be harder for her being basically alone in a new city trying to look after a small child and find a job? Can't see Dexter wanting to babysit lol. Plus she already had a job at Blades.

What was the point having her professing undying love to Jay, go on the run with him only to bugger off the day he is arrested? Why bother including the whole Jay thing if you are writing a character out?

Like others have said, it is a shoddy exit. The sad thing is Lola was a decent but underused character who was totally wasted after the social services SL. If they really wanted to keep her they could have created stories for her. I would have like to have seen Lola, Jay, Billy and Ben deciding to break away from Phil's influence and becoming an independent family unit. I include Ben because of his whole brother thing with Jay. I found Lola preferable to the likes of Cindy and Whitney, such a shame she has gone.

the fact that cost of living is so much less as soon as you leave london might play a part in that, oh and outside Walford she's allowed benefits for being a single mum obviously
