I couldn't agree more. Sure, I have firm favourites that I will stick for a little more than others but there so many characters I do care about and other characters that make me care when I need too, I don't think writers and actors can ask for much more. Love ED, I wish I got here sooner.
Totally agree about 5 not being enough for Emmerdale. There were at least 15 more that nearly made the cut for me, and tons more I quite like. Great cast of characters.

Gabby, the criminally underused Ruby, Chas, Andy, Jimmy. I tend to like the less tragic, less angsty characters.
I narrowed it down by skipping anyone who is technically not in the show at the moment (ie Charity, Nicola) but it's still so difficult to decide. I do like so many of them.
Honorable mention to Amelia (second best child character after devil child Gabby), Bernice, Edna and Joanie.

I of course included Ruby and Vanessa. I added Megan, Rhona and Leyla. Of these Leyla makes doing the wrong thing remarkably watchable!
Of the male characters I like Ashley, Bob, David and - his lie to Kirin aside - Rakesh.
