To anybody who has complained...

Do you really have nothing better to do with your lives?

There's two main reasons that I have heard in regards to complaints...
#1: kids watch this show
#2: its inappropriate

If "In The Night Garden" or "Horrid Henry" was to air with the use of the b word, then I can understand your point, 100%. However, this is EastEnders. EastEnders is not designed for kids. If your happy to let your young "impressionable" children watch a show consisting of murders, explosions, threats, arrests, sex, drugs, alcohol, abuse, mental health, lies, cheats, thugs, violence, health issues and nudity, thats fine, but you cannot then take the moral high ground when one of these characters in said show says a slightly offensive word, that these days is hardly even considered a sware word anymore.

If you feel it is inappropriate, that's fine, switch off and watch something else. Like my previous paragraph portrays, EastEnders is a show that consists of heightened raw drama, if you want to watch a show where everyone is happy and gets along, go and watch benidorm... Oh hold on, sorry they sware in that don't they??

It's 2015, society moves on and so does the English language... I guarantee your kids are saying much worse than Carol said last night.

Inlove the scene! And personally considering how frequebt people on the streets swear...i think swearing before watershed should be allowed. Its pointless and brings shows down due to lack of realism. On kids tv only should it be absent. Sex, violence and gore ahould really be the only things having to be after the water shes.

Half of what you wrote is a load of rubbish passing off what you think as the majority of many.

As there was no warning about strong language before the episode. How are people supposed to know they should turn off so that their kids do not witness swearing?

The watershed is there for a reason. Fine its a one off but you are suggesting that people should not watch at all just in case.

As for the storylines mentioned surely its up to the parents to deem what is and isn't suitable not you.

People are entitled to complain as they see fit whether you like it or not and just because they complain does not mean the complaint will be upheld

You know. I don't like swearing! I was raised to believe not to swear in front of people even if they swear like troopers in front of you! It's just how I think.

But though it was an eye opener for me to hear I kind of enjoyed it, seeing Max getting his rights read by Carol coming at him hard! He needed that! Besides, as swears go its quite mild and I've heard it before in the show! It's really no big deal

That thread is to do with the actual use of the word in the episode, I'm talking about the complainers and EastEnders in general.

There was no warning about Bradley falling off the roof, or Tony abusing Whitney, or that a 10 year old boy had murdered his 20 year old sister either... plus bastard and bitch have been used so much in soap history, along with slapper, slag, homophobic and racial slurs, so if they are that worried about it they wouldn't let their kids watch in the first place.

Graphic scenes of violence, murder, sexual content and stunts are used before the watershed too, so your point lies where?

Exactly, the parent deems it's ok for their child to watch the show, which I stated in the post, however they knew what to expect, and even know they are so disturbed by it, I guarantee they will allow their children to keep watching, and complain next time something like this happens, or they don't like a storyline, or are unhappy that the show portrays a wide range of characters...

Nope, I'm sorry, but when people make complaints, we have a right to reply. Any parent who allows their child to watch a show like EE and then complains about a swear word is going to be ridiculed. A pregnant woman was beaten pretty badly in last night's episode, but omg, my kid heard the word bastard!

Surely the very fact that just 29 people out of 6 million complained should tell you that it's a total non-issue and we don't need what will probably a heck of a lot more than 29 people on here complaining about 29 people complaining?

Yeah, if your child is that sensitive then I have to ask why you're letting them watch Eastenders in the first place - in the last year we've had a rape, a shooting, a racist attack, a car crash, multiple beatings, character deaths, etc etc...but ofc, one swear word and it's game over for the poor delicate flowers.

In 2009 the BBC received over 250 complaints about an episode of EastEnders that featured only black characters.

But I agree, it's still terrible how people complain over stuff. Swearing, Gay sex scenes, gay kisses, rape, but never over things like violence etc.

I never knew about the complaints following the episode featuring just black characters, that's shocking! I wonder if they screened the same episode now would it receive the same amount of complaints.

I know lots of people complained about the baby swap but that was more down to the fact the storyline nature offended viewers.
