It went relatively quickly. But It was late so I just did a few tests and left it at that. I will have to put the Office back yet.

See

Doing it this way, you can use your charger. You only need the usb if you have corrupted tablet.”

You see I just deleted the recovery partition to get more space, so I would always need the USB stick, which would be useless because I would need the USB port for the power.

Don't forget to create a W10 recovery stick now - W10 works differently and does not have a recovery partition, so if you corrupt Windows, you may need usb (also download full iso is a good plan).

Being paranoid, I would also use Macrium Reflect Free to make a full system image backup (works on Linx 8 - not sure about HP7). You could also make a windows image backup as well? Remember those gremlins have a new mission with W10!

I already have a Win 10 Home setup, on USB though. So if they insist on the tablet being plugged in, it is useless unless I get some device that can power the tablet and has additional USB ports. But I could create a backup of a system on an SD card and then copy it on another USB key for archiving, too.

Does it really only have one USB port and no charging port? You can get a USB hub to connect more than one device.

Windows 10 (like 8) can do a refresh install, so technically you don't need to plug in a USB device to do a clean install.

It has one micro USB port that is used for charging, too. I have an OTG USB cable which I use to connect normal size USB devices. As for refresh/reset, don't you need the recovery partition in some form for that? It has to take that original state from somewhere.

No extra recovery partition is needed. Windows already has all the files you need.

W10 works differently - basically it undeleted all Non-Os files and rebuilds registry. It even remembers OS updates. Works well and quite fast - I have tried it. No recovery portion needed.

re charger - this works on my Linx and many other tablets

Installed Windows 10 a few hours ago. Seems pretty good, may well stick with Edge as my browser instead of Chrome. Does anyone know of a good Ad Blocker for Edge browser? Used Adblock Pro on Chrome, which was excellent, especially on DS.

I don't know of any ad blockers for Edge yet. I'm some there are lots of bedroom coders working on some right now.

Good old hosts file comes to rescue. Good thing greedy Google has most the ads, you block about two servers and you are done

Yes, I did think of using the hosts file. The MVP site continues to be useful:

Re-installed Windows 8.1, the 'upgrade' to W10 just didn't work for a small Tablet like the Stream 7 in my opinion.

What was wrong with it? (For the benefit of others)

I found that 8.1 is easier to use on such a small tablet, didn't enjoy the new menu style. The 'charms bar' on 8.1 is much simpler to use, for me at any rate. Edge browser started off OK but then seemed to hang/slow down, I installed Chrome & W10 didn't seem to like this, the onscreen keyboard disappeared, but re-appeared if I switched to Edge. *I guess Google & MS really don't like each other*
Anyway, the option to go back to the previous 8.1 is great and for that I thank MS.

8.1 is much better touch-wise. I installed W10 on my Dell Venue 8 Pro and it's so-so. Even the tablet mode isn't very touch friendly. The controls are very small, very close together. It's just about borderline usable on 8'' screen.

On my Surface 3 Pro it works better and I am getting used to it. But I miss charm bar, it was a really nice thing on touch devices. The gestures were unique and became natural after a while. Now you just go around touching buttons, very pedestrian

As for the Edge, if you block the biggest ad offenders, yes, it's you, Google, in the hosts file, Edge will become rather snappy.

I think we really have to wait till October to see the full potential of W10. I think they rushed it on the market before the beginning of the school year with fewer features that will be completed with updates later on.

Tablet mode is ... "inconsistent". Some parts of it are okay, others aren't - specifically the persistent task bar (which has icons that are too damn small to be touch friendly). This is on an Acer W4-820, similar spec to the Dell Venu 8 Pro.

I'll happily keep it on W10 for the moment ...

Chrome tends to be more finger friendly than Edge.

For touch tablets, install new beta version of touchmousepointer, which creates a virtual trackpad (use full screen mode) and then you have much more precise control over fiddly items. You can easily toggle between mouse and normal screen mode.

You have to specifically enable the trackpad mode to work in tablet mode (they refer to it as Store mode as it was written for 8.1 but works on 10).

You will wonder why MS do not have this by default once you use it.

I had to remove it from my tablet as it was giving my tablet problems.

It would be interesting to know what kind of problems, please. Someone said the screen is a bit small/low resolution for the UI.
